No one would blame Lily for being just a bit traumatized! This sensitive girl was relinquished to a sad Texas shelter because her elderly family wasn't mentally capable of caring for her and her three housemates. The home was filthy and no care was given to the dermatitis that all the dogs were suffering from. Lily's rescuer was very pleasantly surprised that Lily's health picture was perfect with only her skin needing attention. The response was immediate with an antibiotic, soothing medicated baths and excellent nutrition. Lily's skin is healing more each day and we can see the beginning of a gorgeous coat that speaks of her Terrier and Shih Tzu lineage. We hope that Lily can serve as a lesson to us all...if you're a senior citizen, a younger person or the family of individuals who aren't mentally adept enough to care for their pets...plans must be made in writing for their welfare. If this doesn't occur, that devoted fuzzy friend will most often end up facing euthanasia in a high-kill municipal shelter. Lily is definitely one of the lucky ones...her inner (and outer) beauty spoke volumes and our rescuer couldn't say no (and we're so glad she couldn't!) Although it's impossible to tell in these photos, Lily is a stunning Shih Tzu/Border Terrier. (The photos are awful..we've requested new ones and will update as soon as we receive them). Our hearts go out to this lovely girl...rehoming is always difficult but with a very dog-crazy and respectful forever family, Lily will blossom and shine. Lily is just about 2.5 years old (such a perfect age...old enough to have left babyish behaviors behind and young enough to have many, many healthy and active years remaining). She weighs a tiny 8 lbs...the perfect size to fit perfectly on any lap as well as an all night companion. She is the perfect size to enjoy walks, backyard fun..and most important, cuddling and loyal companionship. Lily has shown herself to be a healthy girl with no known challenges. She can be initially shy or confused from all that has recently transpired in her life, but with patience, kindness and pure love, Lola will blossom! She, like all dogs, will benefit from a regimen of physical exercise and mental stimulation. A fenced yard or roomy deck for daily play and sunning would be perfect for Lily. She would enjoy the companionship of a like- sized canine companion..but in the end, it's Lily's people that receive all her love and loyalty. While walks, car rides and socialization are so much fun, time at home with her family is just about perfect for Lily. We envision Lily with active retired folks who love hanging out with a fluffy and fun best friend. A younger family that works from home or part-time would be great as well.. Right now, a great match would be a family who just wants a devoted (once comfortable and bonded) and loving full-time companion. With true love and respect in her family, Lily will return these emotions a million times over. We're hoping that Lily will be spayed prior to her transport to Boulder. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Lily's spay and microchip if one of our Colorado rescue vets is used . Lily has the most gorgeous non-shedding and cottony-soft coat (while it's difficult to know if a dog sheds until their uncared for hair grows out, Lily's breeds speak of two non-shedding dogs). She will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is strongly suggested for longevity as well coat care) . This protocol will keep Lily's hair silky-soft, matt-free and very healthy. Lily will be arriving on transport in Boulder in mid-August (we'll update once date is confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet and beautiful girl. If interested in this very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Lily, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lily-ADOPTION PENDING, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
