At PetSmart Charities of Canada™, we believe all pets deserve to live long, happy lives in the arms of those who love them. Sadly, the lack of accessible and affordable veterinary care risks the bond between pets and their families. Due to cost and other barriers, communities across the country face challenges gaining access to veterinary care, including basic services such as vaccinations and prescriptions, spay/neuter surgeries, dental treatments, and preventive health care for their companion animals. With rising costs of living affecting everyone, pet parents from all walks of life could struggle to access the veterinary care their pets need.
That's why we partner with local community changemakers to address the immediate problem while creating long-term, sustainable solutions. With your support, we’re creating impactful partnerships that help keep pets healthy, happy, and together with those who love them.
Partnerships with organizations like the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA in Ontario, who bring affordable and convenient veterinary care to those in need throughout their community. Thanks to the generosity of donors, PetSmart Charities of Canada™ awarded a $100,000 grant to support the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA in their ongoing commitment to provide access to veterinary care for people and pets in need. During their pet wellness clinics, staff and volunteers provide pets with a full wellness appointment which includes a physical exam, vaccinations, flea prevention, de-worming and nail trimming. PetSmart Charities of Canada’s grant will support the team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other staff, while also providing supplies, with a goal of serving 1,000 pets in the Hamilton/Burlington community.
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA team met Skylar at one of their wellness clinics, a pet parent who accessed veterinary care to keep her pets happy and healthy. “I’m Skylar and I have three cats who are my babies. They’re not my cats, they are my babies,” she laughed.
With our support, Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is working to decrease access barriers for those most in need, thereby benefiting pets, families, and their surrounding communities.
