My story

Note: Daon is currently in Korea, but he will arrive in Toronto on Nov 9 once he is adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here. Quick FactsBreed: Lab mix · Sex: Male · Born: July 2, 2021 · Weight: 21 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Gentle, calm, easygoing · Health: Neutered, vaccinated, fully treated for heartwormBackgroundDaon was rescued in July 2026 from a farmhouse in Gyeonggi Province, where an elderly couple in their nineties could no longer properly care for their dogs. Of the four dogs living there, Daon was the only one who wasn’t tied up. When rescuers arrived, he came over calmly, wagging his tail. After his rescue, he stayed at a private rescuer’s shelter, and this fall he moved to our partner shelter.PersonalityDaon is a quiet, gentle, and well mannered sweetheart. His favourite things are people, treats, and toys. When someone comes into his room in the morning, he greets them with a wagging tail. When he’s on his own, he usually just has a quiet nap.His energy level is low to moderate. When he meets a new person or sees something unfamiliar, he takes a moment to look things over. Once he’s decided it’s safe, he’s happy to be petted. He doesn’t like it when a stranger walks up suddenly and touches him, but if you give him a few minutes to come to you, he’ll ask for pets on his own.CompatibilityDaon is just as friendly with men as he is with women. He has met preschool aged children and stayed calm, without much reaction either way. As with any dog, time with children should be supervised, and parents should take full responsibility for teaching both their children and their dog how to interact safely. He loves being petted and doesn’t mind being touched anywhere.Daon gets along well with other dogs, even ones he’s just met. He reads his friends well. With quiet dogs, he leaves them be, and with playful dogs, he joins in the fun. He’s a sweet boy who lets other dogs go first when it comes to food and toys.Daon hasn’t lived indoors with cats, but there were stray cats around the farmhouse where he lived, and he doesn’t seem bothered by them. Knowing his calm nature, we think living with a cat is possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Behaviours & TrainingDaon can use pee pads indoors and also goes potty outside. He walks nicely on a leash. A loud noise very close by, like a motorbike, can startle him, and he may lie flat on the ground for a moment. He rides well in the car and behaves well at the vet. He’s easy to handle for baths, nail trims, and brushing. He sometimes chews on pee pads, but he doesn’t eat them. He knows “sit.”Daon doesn’t bark much. When people leave, he may whine a little, but it doesn’t last long.Health & DietDaon is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. He has no known allergies and no skin or digestive issues. After his rescue in July 2026, Daon was treated for heartworm, and in October 2026 he was declared fully cured. He also tested negative for anaplasma. He’s had his dental cleaning, and his teeth are clean and healthy. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home.Daon eats kibble twice a day and enjoys everything he’s given. He has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far.Ideal HomeDaon is gentle, kind, and easy to live with, so he could fit into many kinds of homes. He settles in quickly and doesn’t need much looking after, which makes him a good choice for first time adopters too. Someone who works from home or is retired, and can spend lots of time with him, would be a great match. He loves having his people close by. A home with a friendly dog could be nice for him, and a quiet home would suit him just as well. When he arrives, all he needs is about five minutes to look around on his own. After that, he’ll probably find a spot near you and lie down. Daon spent his early years waiting quietly in the background. He’s still quiet, but now he knows exactly where he wants to be, right next to his people. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Daon 2, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
