My story

Note: Asan is currently in Korea, but he will arrive in Toronto on Oct 27 once adopted. For more info about him or the adoption applicaiton, please click here.Adopt Asan, the Playful Jindo Mix Who Sits Right on Your FeetWhen Asan sits down beside you, he doesn't just sit nearby. He plants himself right on top of your feet, or presses his bottom snugly against your legs, so there's no question who he's with.Quick Facts: Breed: Jindo and Samoyed mix · Sex: Male · Born: September 10, 2024 (2 years old) · Weight: 16 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Playful, affectionate, people loving · Health: Neutered, vaccinated, healthyBackground: In December 2025, EK, the founder of Free Korean Dogs, noticed Asan in a field behind a house near her home. He was chained up alone, with no dog house and no proper food, and he often cried, clearly unhappy on his chain. EK brought him a dog house so he could stay out of the snow and rain, along with kibble. Even so, his owner kept leaving him without water or care. After several tries, the owner finally agreed to give him up, and Asan was surrendered to us in March, 2026. Since then he has been living at our partner shelter, and the change has been big. Today he's happy to see people and greets them with obvious delight.Personality: The staff describe Asan as a little prankster. When someone comes into the kennel in the morning, he jumps up and down with excitement. His favorite things are people, his dog friend Joia, and treats. His energy runs moderate to high, with plenty to spare for walks and play, and when he's on his own he sleeps and rests. New people, places, and objects get a careful look first, then he walks over to say hello. Once he gets to know them, he becomes very affectionate.Compatibility: Asan greets new people with an excitement. He seems to like women a little more, though he's friendly with men too. He enjoys being held and petted, and he's comfortable being touched anywhere on his body. What he doesn't like is being grabbed, picked up suddenly, or handled by force. Approached calmly, with a moment to see what's coming, he's happy to be held. For this reason, adult only home is recommended. His favorite thing in the world is going for a walk with his favorite person. With other dogs, Asan is selective. He likes to be the boss, so other dogs often keep their distance from him, and he doesn't enjoy dogs who are hyper or too dominant either. The exception is his best friend, Joia. The two of them get along really well, running around and playing together. Overall, though, we've found that Asan does best as the only dog in the home, since he can get jealous and bossy around other dogs.Asan hasn't lived with cats before, and a home without cats or other small animals would be the best fit for him.Behaviours & Training: Asan goes potty outdoors and also use indoor pads if needed. He's used to going on walks, and other dogs, cars, and motorbikes along the way don't get much of a reaction from him. He rides quietly in the car and behaves well at the vet. Baths and brushing go smoothly, though nail trims are another story, and he'll put up a fuss. He has no chewing habits and comes when his name is called. When he's been kept on his own, he has rested quietly, with no signs of separation anxiety.Health & Diet: Asan is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. When he was rescued, Asan had heartworm. He has completed his treatment and is now heartworm free, with no further care needed for it. Like any dog, though, it's important that he stays on his monthly parasite prevention. His teeth are clean, and a dental scaling is scheduled. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home.He eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far. He isn't picky and happily eats everything he's given.Ideal Home: Asan would do best with a confident, patient adopter who has plenty of dog experience. A calm, quiet household with a fenced yard would suit him best, and a condo or apartment wouldn't be a good fit for him. He loves zoomies and playing fetch, so a safe, fenced backyard would make him very happy.Since he's selective and bossy around other dogs, a home with no other pets and no children would suit him best. He'll be happiest with someone who gives him time to settle in while also offering calm, steady leadership.Asan is an affectionate, lovely boy who loves his people more than anything. He still has a lot to learn, but he'll give you all his love in return and make you feel very special. He jumps for joy when people walk in and sits on their feet to stay close. He's ready for a calm home and a family who will give him the patience he needs to keep growing. Could it be yours?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Asan, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
