My story

EET MILO — 27 POUNDS OF NOSEY NELLY, SELECTIVE HEARING & DARLA’S UNWANTED PERSONAL ASSISTANT HI, I’M MILO — APPARENTLY I WAS “TOO MUCH” Hi, I’m Milo! I’m two years old, about 27 pounds, and I came to Freedom Frenchie Rescue as a surrender. Somewhere along the way, someone had “saved” me, and eventually I became too much for them. Who knows what the whole story really was, and honestly, who cares? I'm here now, I'm safe, and nobody needs to spend time trying to piece together a story I can't confirm. What matters is the dog standing in front of you today, and that dog is one incredibly sweet, social, slightly nosey little French Bulldog. THEN I MET DARLA AND DECIDED SHE WAS MY SOULMATE I LOVE me some Darla. From the moment I met her, I basically decided we were going to be together at all times. I followed her around nonstop like a little 27-pound shadow, and I could tell immediately that she was equally thrilled about our new relationship. Okay, that's a lie. She was SO annoyed with me. But after about a week, she finally accepted that apparently she had acquired an irritating little fly that wasn't going anywhere. DARLA HAS ACCEPTED HER FATE For the most part, Darla keeps me in check. She lets me know when I'm being ridiculous, and I'm learning to respect what she's telling me. Meanwhile, I continue following her because clearly our relationship is working beautifully. She may describe it differently, but unfortunately this is my adoption profile and she doesn't get editorial approval. As far as Darla is concerned, however, everyone should apply for me immediately so she can get adopted brother-free and return to the peaceful life she had before Milo. OTHER DOGS ARE MY KIND OF PEOPLE I'm a very social guy and genuinely enjoy being around other dogs. I like hanging out with the crowd, eating alongside my foster siblings, lounging on the couch with everyone, and just being part of whatever the pack is doing. I haven't shown aggression or reactivity in my foster home. I'm generally just cruising around, hanging with the dogs, and periodically checking to make sure Darla hasn't somehow escaped my supervision. I’M A NOSEY NELLY AND I MAKE NO APOLOGIES If you're doing something, I need to know what you're doing. Open a bag of chips? I'm directly behind you conducting an investigation. Walk into another room? Interesting, I'll come too. Taking your morning poop? Great news, you don't have to do that alone anymore. I consider privacy an outdated human concept. If I'm not playing with my foster siblings or distracted by the beautiful Darla, I prefer to have my human within eyesight because something important could happen and I refuse to miss it. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO WONDER WHERE I AM I'm not necessarily demanding that you entertain me every second of the day. I just like being involved. There's a difference. I want to know where you are, what you're eating, why you opened that cabinet, whether we're leaving, what was inside that package, and whether any of this concerns me. Most of the time it probably doesn't, but I believe in gathering all available information before reaching that conclusion. POTTY TRAINING? ALREADY HANDLED I'm potty trained and I know how to use the doggy door, which makes life considerably easier. Since being neutered, my marking has also pretty much stopped. Now, am I going to promise that I'll enter a completely new house filled with unfamiliar dog smells and never consider lighting up the corner of a couch? Absolutely not. I'm a dog, not a politician making campaign promises. A transition period, supervision, and continuing my routine are still important while I learn that your house is now my house too. MY EAR NEEDS SOME REGULAR ATTENTION I currently have an ear hematoma that is slowly healing, so ears are going to be one of those things my future family needs to stay on top of. Keeping my ears clean, monitoring them for irritation, odor, discharge, redness, or excessive scratching, and addressing problems early will be important. Bulldog ears can turn into an expensive problem when they're ignored, so the easiest approach is to make checking my ears part of my normal weekly care routine and follow veterinary recommendations if anything looks off. SNACKS HAVE MY FULL ATTENTION I haven't shown a huge obsession with toys yet, but snacks? Now we're speaking my language. Food is considerably more interesting to me than chasing around some squeaky object I'm apparently expected to retrieve. Maybe the toy thing will come with time as I continue settling in, or maybe I'll always be the guy who would rather sit beside you waiting for snacks. Either option works for me. MY FRENCH BULLDOG HEARING IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE I'm capable of hearing. Whether I believe what you're saying deserves an immediate response is an entirely different question. My classic French Bulldog selective hearing occasionally interferes with my ability to follow directions, especially when something more interesting is happening. Darla walked by? Sorry, conversation over. Somebody opened a snack? Your request has been placed on hold. Another dog is doing something interesting? I'll circle back with you later. I’M ACTUALLY A VERY GENTLE GUY Underneath all the nosiness, Darla stalking, couch hogging, and selective listening is an incredibly kind and gentle little dog. That's really the heart of who I am. I enjoy being with people and dogs, and I haven't felt the need to create conflict in my foster home. I fit into the group, eat with everyone, relax with everyone, and generally seem happiest when I feel like I'm part of something. COUCH CAPACITY IS MERELY A SUGGESTION If the foster dogs are on the couch, obviously I should also be on the couch. It doesn't matter how many dogs are already there or how much actual couch remains. We can figure it out. I'm perfectly happy piling in with my foster siblings and taking whatever space is available, although somehow I suspect the humans are usually the ones who end up with six inches of cushion while the dogs occupy the rest. SUNBATHING IS ONE OF MY SPECIAL SKILLS I LOVE a good sunbathing session. Give me a comfortable spot, let me stretch out, and I'm happy to enjoy a little sunshine while contemplating all of my important Milo responsibilities. Of course, I'm still a French Bulldog, so my humans need to be smart about heat and make sure my sun worship doesn't turn into overheating, especially here in Arizona. Safe sunshine and supervised lounging? Absolutely. I’LL TAKE THE PASSENGER SEAT, PLEASE Car rides are another favorite of mine, which makes me an awesome candidate for someone who likes bringing their dog along. I'm not looking for a life where I never leave the house. Take me for a ride, bring me along on an adventure, let me see what's happening in the world, and I'm happy. Remember, I'm Nosey Nelly. Of course I want to go. There could be something happening somewhere without me, and that's simply unacceptable. I’D BE ONE HELL OF A LITTLE BUDDY That's the kind of home I can really see myself in—someone who actually wants their dog involved in their life. I don't need every day to be some enormous adventure, but I would love a person who enjoys car rides, walks, hanging outside, relaxing on the couch, and having a little sidekick following them around. If you're looking for a dog who disappears into another room for six hours and minds his own business, we should probably discuss your expectations. I DON’T NEED TO BE AN ONLY DOG Based on what we've seen in foster care, I really enjoy having canine company. I've been able to eat with my foster siblings, hang out with them, share couch space, and play without showing aggression or reactivity. Another compatible dog could be a great fit for me, especially because I clearly enjoy being part of a pack. As always, proper decompression and slow introductions still matter because every new relationship deserves the chance to develop instead of being forced. DARLA WOULD LIKE TO PERSONALLY APPROVE MY ADOPTION Darla has asked that we wrap this profile up because apparently she's exhausted. She would like everyone to understand that Milo is sweet, Milo is gentle, Milo is dog-friendly, Milo is adorable, and Milo needs his own damn family immediately. She has served her time. She would like to nap without opening her eyes and discovering my face six inches away. She would like to walk across the room without acquiring a Milo. Please respect Darla during this difficult time. I’M MILO, AND I’M READY TO BE SOMEBODY’S SHADOW I'm Milo—two years old, about 27 pounds, potty trained, doggy-door trained, dog-friendly, car-ride approved, snack motivated, professional sunbather, couch hog, Nosey Nelly, and Darla's completely unsolicited personal assistant. I'm gentle, affectionate, social, and happiest when I get to be part of the family instead of watching life happen from the sidelines. Give me a little structure, keep up with my ears, continue working on my manners, and understand that wherever you go, there's an excellent chance I'm coming too. Your couch will become our couch, your car will become our car, and apparently even your bathroom will become our bathroom. And if you need one final reason to adopt me, please consider doing it for Darla. That poor woman has had enough. Milo is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, he is being fostered in Scottsdale, AZ. His adoption donation fee is $1150.00 and you can apply for him on our website at freedomfrenchierescue.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Milo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
