Be forewarned, though: if you so much as look her way, enthusiastic tail wags and a goofy grin will follow you wherever you go. Truffle is a five-year-old miniature Bernedoodle who weighs 25 pounds - much smaller than you might think based on her photos! She could stand to lose a few pounds, but her enthusiasm for walks is growing. With regular exercise and support from her new family, she should be in peak condition soon. Truffle spent most of her life as a mill mama, so while she is very friendly, certain noises and sudden movements can make her nervous. She has already made tremendous progress in foster care, where she is discovering that human touch can be a wonderful thing. She will need a patient adopter who can provide clear, consistent boundaries as she continues learning how to truly "be a dog." Truffle could thrive in a variety of homes, provided her family is committed to offering training, structure, and plenty of love. She is generally quiet (although she has found her voice on occasion!) and she has lots of energy. As she has grown more comfortable in her foster home, a playful, mischievous side has begun to show. Luckily, she is intelligent and eager to please, so she responds well to consistent guidance. Walks are becoming one of Truffle's favourite things. She eagerly comes to the door and puts her head into her martingale collar when it is time to go. A home that can provide plenty of walks would be ideal. She also enjoys sniffing around the backyard, so a fenced yard would be a bonus, though it is not essential if she receives enough exercise. As a poodle mix, Truffle will require regular professional grooming, ideally every six to eight weeks. She does not shed, but her curly coat can mat as it grows, so consistent brushing at home will help keep her comfortable. Truffle is housetrained but may have an accident if she is not given enough time outside. Because she does not yet signal when she needs to go, her family will need to offer regular opportunities for bathroom breaks. She enjoys her food and has shown no signs of resource guarding. In fact, she remains unfazed when her foster brother tries to sneak a few pieces of kibble from her bowl! Truffle is crate trained, although she does not yet enter her crate willingly. Once inside, she settles quickly. Continued positive reinforcement - especially with high-value treats - will help her become more comfortable with it. She currently sleeps in her crate and stays there when unsupervised. She was initially quite anxious in the car, but she is becoming more comfortable with every trip. Currently, she travels safely in a crate. Truffle has little interest in other dogs - she is much more focused on her people! After living with another small dog in her foster home for more than four weeks, she has shown only mild curiosity about what he is doing. Her neutral nature means she could live well with another calm, neutral, mature dog, but she would thrive as the only dog in the home. She has not been tested with cats. On walks, she shows very little interest in other dogs or wildlife - she notices them and then happily moves along. Truffle has met several children and teenagers and has loved them all. She is gentle and could do well in a home with children of any age, provided they are taught to respect her space and boundaries. So far, Truffle's training has focused primarily on helping her adjust to life in a home and teaching her appropriate boundaries around personal space. When she first arrived, she wanted to always be physically as close to her foster as possible. She now understands the boundaries that have been introduced, but her new family will need to maintain them consistently. She is beginning to learn "sit," "stay," and "come." Continued training will help strengthen these skills. Truffle is very smart and eager to please, so she is likely to make excellent progress with patient, positive guidance. Truffle is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She will also receive a veterinary dental cleaning before joining her new family. She has a grade 1 luxating patella, a mild condition in which the kneecap can be manually displaced but returns to its normal position on its own. It typically causes few or no symptoms, and no treatment is currently required. Truffle is ready for a family who will give her the patience, structure, exercise, and affection she deserves. In return, she will bring endless sweetness, joy, and companionship to her new home.
