My story

Roxy has the purest heart—she just needs a little time and patience before she is ready to share it. New people, unfamiliar places and overly enthusiastic dogs can make Roxy feel unsure at first. She may retreat to her kennel, keep her distance or give a small growl to ask for space. The best way to win her over is simply to let her approach when she is ready. Within about a day, her foster family watched her begin to relax, sit beside them and follow them from room to room. Once Roxy feels safe, her loving and playful personality shines. She enjoys playing chase with other dogs, although she is still figuring out what to do with toys. She would be happiest as the only dog or with one calm, respectful canine companion. Dominant or high-energy dogs can overwhelm her. She may also do well with a dog-savvy cat following a patient introduction. Roxy is potty trained, kennel trained and sleeps peacefully in her kennel at night. She can manage stairs, does well when left alone and walks nicely on a leash, though she occasionally likes to wander and would benefit from continued practice. She has a medium energy level—the perfect combination of playful and relaxed—and would enjoy joining her person for daily walks. Because Roxy values predictability and personal space, she is looking for a calm, settled household with a dependable routine. Older, dog-savvy children who understand not to force affection may be a good fit. She can live in a house, apartment, condo or mobile home as long as she is given time to settle in at her own pace. Roxy does not need an experienced adopter—just someone patient enough to let trust grow naturally. Give her a little time, and you will be rewarded with a devoted companion who wants to sit beside you, follow you through the day and finally experience the security of being someone’s cherished best friend.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Roxy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
