My story

*Note: Hopang is in Korea now but he will be arriving in Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog or to submit an adoption application, please click here.BackgroundHopang was one of the 101 dogs rescued from the Siheung dog meat farm in Korea. Since his rescue, he has been living at our partner boarding house. Over time, he has revealed himself to be a gentle, sweet natured boy with a loyal heart.Personality and SocializationHopang gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He is friendly, social, and enjoys having canine companions around him. He is comfortable with dogs of different sizes and personalities and has never shown aggression. He especially enjoys the company of gentle and friendly dogs. In fact, Hopang feels most confident when he has another dog by his side. Having a canine friend helps him navigate new situations and brings out his playful, relaxed personality. For this reason, we are looking for a home with at least one friendly resident dog. With people, Hopang was shy during his first few years after rescue. However, with patience, consistency, and kindness, he has made tremendous progress. He now seeks out attention from people he knows and enjoys gentle pets and companionship. Watching him open up and show his affectionate side has been incredibly rewarding. He especially loves spending time outdoors, lounging in the sunshine, and simply enjoying a peaceful day.BehavioursHopang can be cautious when visiting new places or meeting unfamiliar people, but he settles in much more quickly when another confident dog is present. He does particularly well with calm, patient people who understand that trust is earned over time.He rides well in the car and has excellent manners during vet visits and bath time. While these experiences may not be his favourite, he allows handling politely and cooperatively. Building trust through positive experiences is very important for Hopang, and he responds best to gentle guidance rather than correction.Hopang lived with a trainer for two years, where he learned leash walking skills and gained confidence in everyday situations. He walks well on leash, is quiet in the home, and rarely barks. Aside from needing some time to adjust to new environments and unfamiliar people, he is generally an easygoing and well mannered dog.Health and DietHopang is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. He has been dewormed and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats kibble twice daily and has shown no known allergies. He has also received a full veterinary examination and dental care, including scaling. Hopang is healthy and ready to find his forever family.Ideal HomeHopang would thrive in a patient and understanding home with previous large dog experience. A home with at least one friendly, confident medium or large sized dog is essential, as another dog helps him feel secure and comfortable.A quiet residential environment would suit him best. A busy downtown setting would likely be overwhelming, while a home with a fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus to help him adjust and enjoy outdoor time safely. Most importantly, Hopang needs a family that understands he may not be the type of dog who immediately greets strangers or adapts overnight. He needs time to build trust and feel safe. In return, he offers something very special: deep loyalty, quiet companionship, and a genuine bond built on mutual respect and love.Hopang is a beautiful soul who has already overcome so much. The world was once a frightening place for him, but each day he grows more confident and hopeful. With patience and kindness, his future family will have the privilege of watching him continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he was always meant to be.*Note: Hopang is in Korea now but he will be arriving in Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog or to submit an adoption application, please click here.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hopang, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
