We recently welcomed Rose, a lovely little Poodle to our rescue. She is approximately 3-4 year old and weighs 12.5 lbs. Rose is from a puppy mill. Rose is currently being fostered in a home with 3 small dogs and they all get along well. They play together and Rose loves toys, particularly a red crab. Rose has been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Coming from a puppy mill environment she tends to gravitate more towards women. When a stranger or a man enters a room she sometimes growls or barks for a few minutes. She is not aggressive and does not bite. At night Rose sleeps either on her foster parent’s bed or on a dog bed on the floor. She eats canned food with a little chopped chicken or rice added. She has a good appetite and eats twice daily. Car rides are not a problem. She is quite happy to sit in a dog bed wearing a seat belt. Rose uses puppy pads in the house and also goes outside, but still has some accidents. She will need some assistance with that. Also, coming from a mill, she has not been walked on a leash and does not do stairs yet. Rose does bark a little and would need to be in a house with a fenced in backyard rather than an apartment. Also it would be best if someone would be home with her more often than not - perhaps someone retired or working from home. She is a very happy friendly girl and her tail wags constantly. She would be a great addition to any family. For those interested in adopting one of our puppy mill release dogs, please be aware that these dogs often require extra patience, structure, and ongoing support. Their temperaments and behaviours can vary widely, and for the best outcome, adoptive homes MUST have access to a fully fenced yard and understand that rehabilitation is a gradual process. Many of these dogs have not yet experienced living in a home, regular interaction with people, leash walking, housetraining, or even having a name. All of these new people, environments, and activities can be scary for them and many are flight risks while they adjust. Leash walks may not even be a safe option for them initially which is why having access to their own fenced yard is essential. They need a patient adopter who can meet them at their comfort level and gently help them learn how to be a companion animal. Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog. Please carefully review the bio for the dog and our adoption process https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/adoption-process/. If you are still interested in adopting, please fill out the adoption application form at the bottom of that page.July 2, 2026, 11:11 pm
