My story

Mavi / Male / 1 Year / 46 lbs / Shepherd Mix / Good with Dogs /Must Live with Another Dog/ Older Kids Only / Not Good with Cats / Local Shelter / Fostered in Brantford **Follow Mavi’s journey on Instagram: @peppatheshep Mavi is a sweet, sensitive boy who recently moved to a new foster home so he could settle into a quieter environment better suited to his needs. While he has made progress, it has become clear that busy city life is simply too overwhelming for him. Mavi will thrive in a calm home outside of a busy urban setting, where he can feel safe, decompress, and build confidence at his own pace. Once Mavi settles in, his personality really shines. He can be timid at first, but underneath that initial uncertainty is a goofy, affectionate lovebug who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. He loves curling up beside you, sitting on your feet, and soaking up affection once he feels safe. He also loves spending time outside, exploring the yard, playing with toys, and hanging out with his dog friends. Mavi is very sweet with familiar people and can warm up nicely to new ones when given time and space to approach on his own terms. He has not been formally tested with children, but based on what we know about him, calm, respectful, dog-savvy kids would likely be the best fit. Mavi’s forever home must have a well-balanced resident dog, ideally one around the same age and energy level. This is not just a preference for him, it is a requirement. Mavi takes so much comfort from other dogs and feels far more confident when he has a calm canine companion to follow. He truly thrives with a dog sibling and will only be considered for a home with the right resident dog already in place. A fenced backyard is also a must for Mavi. Walks are still very much a work in progress and it’s hard to say where that will ultimately land, so having a safe outdoor space where he can run, explore, and decompress is incredibly important for him. His exercise needs are currently best met through backyard time, play with his dog sibling, and enrichment around the home rather than regular neighbourhood walks. Mavi is smart, food motivated, and enjoys training when he feels safe and not overwhelmed. He is fully potty trained, settles beautifully in his crate, and has lovely house manners. He can be left alone for short periods and has done well with a predictable routine in foster care. He is not recommended for a home with cats, and he is also not good in the car, so his future family should be prepared for that. Mavi is looking for a patient, understanding home that will continue to help him feel safe in the world. For the right family, one with a quiet environment, a fenced yard, and most importantly a well-balanced dog sibling around the same age. Mavi is going to be an incredibly rewarding companion.
