My story

Ivy Poodle/Shih Tzu mix Small Senior Female   This cutie patootie is Ivy a 12 pound, 10 year old, spayed, female Poodle and Shih Tzu mix whose owner can no longer provide her with the care she deserves. Ivy has lived in the same home since a puppy and is up to date on her vetting and housetrained.  She enjoys her walks and is used to doing her business while on leash walks.   She has not lived with another dog but has been dog sat in a home with a Golden Retriever and did well with that dog so we think she might be fine with a canine companion in her new home after a slow introduction.  She doesn't have any experience with cats.   Ivy has not lived with children but has been fine with visiting children.  We would only recommend children 12 years or older in her next home as she does guard items like tissue and her toys.  She will release the items she is guarding if offered an item of higher value to her.     Ivy is used to being left alone while her family works full-time and is described as quiet and non-destructive when left alone.  She is not crate trained and is fine to be left loose in the home.  She likes to be near her humans when they are home and sleeps on her bed in their bedroom.   She enjoys her walks and walks well on leash but may go to the end of the leash and bark at dogs on the same side of the street or moving things like bicycles.  Her new family should be willing to help her work through this behaviour using a positive reinforcement based approach.   Ivy will initially bark at visitors and it takes her a bit of time to become comfortable with new people.   She will lick her front paws and her veterinarian has recommended Cytopoint injections to help with this condition.  Her owner would wash her paws with medicated shampoo and use a cone to reduce the licking.  Ivy has been professionally groomed every 3 months and will continue to require regular grooms in her new home.  She is a bit nervous for grooms but co-operative.   Ivy is an energetic and active 10 year old who would love to find a new family who enjoys spending time with her, walks, play time in the yard, and is able to provide her with the care she deserves including regular grooms and management of her allergies.  Don't delay, apply to adopt Ivy today!      June 12, 2026, 8:06 am

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ivy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
