My story

Lola / Female / 3 Years Old / 38lbs / Mixed Breed / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Untested with Cats / From Mexico/ Fostered in Toronto **Follow Lola's journey on Instagram: @___lilmisslola Lola is a gentle, sensitive soul who is learning (at her own pace) that the world can be a safe and kind place. She was found living at a remote gas station while very pregnant, in an area known for abandoned dogs. Since coming into care, she has made quiet but meaningful progress, slowly trading fear for trust and beginning to understand what it means to belong. She is a soft, affectionate girl with a calm presence. Lola enjoys the simple things-sniff walks, time outdoors, cozy naps, and cuddling up once she feels comfortable. She’s not one for chaos or attention; instead, she prefers to quietly observe her surroundings before deciding how she feels. When she does open up, it’s incredibly special. She’ll come over for gentle cuddles, offer sweet kisses, and even greet you with a happy little burst of excitement to start the day. She also has a playful, endearing side, especially when it comes to mealtime, where she does a small excited dance. With her people, Lola is loving, easygoing, and deeply affectionate once she feels safe. With new people, she is more cautious and prefers slow, respectful introductions, often choosing to keep her distance at first before gradually warming up. While she hasn’t been formally tested with children, based on her temperament, she would likely do well with calm, dog-savvy kids who can give her space and allow her to approach on her own terms. Lola would thrive in a calm, patient home that understands she may need time to settle in and build confidence. She does best in quieter environments rather than busy, high-traffic settings, and would love a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods. She enjoys companionship, whether from her people or another dog. She would do especially well in a home with a confident canine friend to help guide her. She is good with other dogs, though a bit selective in her enthusiasm, and tends to take cues from them. She has not lived with cats in her current foster home, but based on her demeanour and prior testing, she is expected to do well with them. Lola has a low energy level and is happiest with a steady routine that includes a couple of relaxed walks and plenty of downtime. She walks beautifully on leash and enjoys taking her time to explore the world through sniffing, though she is still building confidence in busier environments. She is fully house-trained, has excellent house manners, and can be trusted with free roam of the home. She sleeps soundly through the night and settles in easily when her people are nearby, though she may take a little time to fully relax when left alone. Lola is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention, but quietly earns it. With patience, understanding, and a gentle approach, she forms deep, meaningful bonds and becomes an incredibly loyal and loving companion. For the right person, she is something truly special. Prior to coming into care, Lola tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. Lola 's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection however it is recommended that Ehrlichia-positive dogs get annual blood tests to monitor and pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions.
