BackgroundChocomi was one of 148 dogs rescued from a puppy mill in Gimpo, Korea last winter. After her rescue, she has been living with other dogs at our partner boarding house.Personality and SocializationChocomi means “little baby” in Korean. She is a gentle, loving Shih Tzu with a calm and affectionate personality. Quiet and mellow by nature, Chocomi enjoys peaceful companionship and loves cuddling close to her people. She has a very easygoing temperament and is happiest simply being near those she loves. Despite everything she has been through, Chocomi remains trusting, patient, and full of love.Chocomi gets along well with other gentle and friendly dogs, especially small dogs, as those are the dogs she has mostly been around. She has not yet been tested with cats or young children, but because of her sweet and gentle personality, we believe she could adjust well with proper and gradual introductions.BehavioursChocomi is a very calm and low maintenance companion. Indoors, she enjoys lounging comfortably and resting quietly beside her humans. She loves affection and happily melts into cuddles. She is cooperative and well behaved during grooming, veterinary visits, and car rides. She allows handling gently and calmly. She is not destructive and has a very mellow personality that makes her easy to care for.Although she is still new to leash walking, she follows her person closely and learns quickly. She takes comfort in staying near her trusted humans and navigates her environment surprisingly well.Health and DietChocomi is spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and on monthly parasite prevention. When Chocomi was rescued from the puppy mill, she already had cataracts in both eyes. She still has limited vision. Thankfully, she is comfortable and not in pain, and surgery is not needed at this time. Chocomi currently uses eye drops. She is missing several teeth, but she has no trouble eating. Dental work including scaling was done.Chocomi eats dry food twice a day and has not shown any allergies.Ideal HomeChocomi would do well in many types of loving homes thanks to her gentle, patient, and affectionate nature. However, we would especially love for her to have a family where someone is home most of the time. While she does not show separation anxiety and waits quietly and patiently, we want her to enjoy a life where she can be part of her family’s daily routines and companionship.A quiet and peaceful home would suit her perfectly. Someone retired or working from home would be ideal for this precious girl. Chocomi is a truly loving little angel. After surviving life in a puppy mill and losing her sight, she asks for so little. All she wants is love, safety, and a place to finally call home.Note: Chocomi is currently in Korea, but she will be flying to Toronto on June 9 once adopted. For more info about the dog, or the adoption application, please click the link here.
