My story

Piper is a 4 year old (DOB 3/6/22) female Rough Collie who is looking for a collie savvy home to call her own for the rest of her days. Piper currently weighs in at around 75 pounds, but she does have a little extra padding and could stand to slim down a tad (just don`t tell her we said that!). Piper lost the only home she has known when financial disaster struck and her people had to leave the state. As heartbreaking as it was for them, they knew the best thing they could do for their dogs was to find them a soft place to land and find a new forever. Piper was a working sheep dog in her former home. She excelled at keeping the sheep on her farm behaving and going exactly where they needed to go. We imagine that once the flock was gone, was when she put on a couple of extra pounds - hard work followed by too much leisure time can do that to a body! Piper is a lovely girl who, according to her former owner, `loves everybody`. She can be a little nervous in new situations, a little leery of the newness of it all, but she never stops being a sweetheart. She will lean into you and take all and any attention that you can or will give her. Piper grew up with respectful dog savvy kids and does quite well with them. She has a relatively soft temperament and is eager to please. She has been around other dogs without any issues, though a meet and greet would be required for any resident canines. She has been around cats, and while she will chase them, she has never hurt one. She should be able to learn to share a home with a confident feline but shouldn`t necessarily be trusted with them running around outdoors. Which isn`t unusual for most dogs. Piper has a thick coat that will need, at minimum, weekly brushing, and likely some trips to the groomer. As we said, a collie savvy home that is cognizant of all of these facts is definitely preferred. It can be a lot of upkeep! Piper is crate trained and primarily housetrained though she did spend a lot of time outside with the sheep and may need a refresher once she is in a new spot. Piper will be available to go to her new home around 5/16. If you are interested in her, please fill out the application at the link below. If you have already submitted an application previously to our organization, please let us know so that we can pull it from our files and make note of your interest in this dog. If you have any questions or need assistance with a previously submitted application, plea

If you have any questions or would like to adopt PIPER, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
