My story

Please care and share for gentle giant Kong! We are looking for a palliative FOREVER IN FOSTER home for this sweet man! Read on and help us get him out of the shelter and into his forever: Dog’s Name: Kong Breed: Mastiff Weight: 45 kg Gender: Male Spayed/neutered: Neutered Age: 7 yr Reason for Intake: Owner lost housing Medical (shots etc): DA2PP/Rabies/Bordetella Good with dogs: Yes per owner. Selective at shelter– happy to be ignored Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids: Yes per owner Good with strangers: Yes Guarding issues: None Ever bitten a human: No Ever bitten a dog: No Behavioural issues: Can be selective with some dogs - ideal forever home would be without other pets. Some barrier reactivity – much better face-to-face. Is easily called off and recovers quickly. House trained: Yes Crate trained: Unknown Destructive when left alone: No Barks when left alone: Yes, initially but will settle Leash skills: He walks at your side but likes to have the leash in his mouth Handling issues: None Known commands: Sit, paw Food on now: Science Diet Adult Medical issues: Kong has mast cell tumour (skin cancer) on ear. Weak/painful hind end and will need to be on pain meds for life. Personality, likes/dislikes: He rubs himself against people like a cat. Will nudge your arm for attention if you’re working on the computer. Best home scenario: Not too many stairs. Busy home would be fine because he likes people. Needs regular, small burst of exercise vs long walks due to hind end. Loves attention and TCL but when he’s had enough, he’s happy to just be present with his people. Our FOREVER IN FOSTER program financially covers medical costs, food and supplies. Offer to foster Kong at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/volunteer/fostering/ May 4, 2026, 5:58 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kong, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
