My story

Shakira (F) and Alexi (M) are a stunning bonded pair of 4-year-old Husky mixes who have been inseparable since birth. These two are a package deal—they rely on each other for comfort and simply can’t relax when apart. The Highlights Active Duo: They are seasoned athletes used to 2–3 hours of daily walks. Well-Behaved: Both are fully house trained and crate trained. The Vibe: They love to play hard, go for long adventures, and then crash together for epic naps. What to Know Escape Artists: True to their breed, they are highly clever and know how to open doors. A secure home with "Husky-proof" handles is a must! Alexi’s Boundaries: Alexi loves affection but is a clear communicator; he’ll give a little grumble when he’s done being pet and wants some space. Ready for an instant family? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
