My story

Olaf is available for Foster to Adopt! We'd love to welcome Olaf into the Fetch + Releash family on May 9th. In order to secure a spot on the flight, he needs a committed foster-to-adopt family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you’ll be expected to take him home that same day. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found. Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog’s nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions. Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet Mississauga, ON for further vet care. During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Olaf / Male / 5 years old / 14 lbs / Maltese Mix / From Mexico Olaf is a playful and affectionate little dog who brings an impressive amount of joy for his size. He wakes up happy. Annoyingly happy. Even before his coffee. He is the kind of dog who assumes every day is meant to be enjoyed and every person is a potential new friend. Olaf was rescued from a neglectful owner and initially presented as shut down and fearful. Over time, he has completely come out of his shell and no longer shows signs of that earlier life. He is now confident, social, and fully embracing the happiness he was previously missing. He walks well on leash and has a medium energy level. He would benefit from two walks per day, along with plenty of canine enrichment. Olaf is still working on his house training and crate training, so he will need a patient home committed to helping him learn the basics of living in a home environment. While he has not been formally tested with children, based on his personality, we believe he would do well with dog-savvy kids. He has not been tested with cats and is looking for a cat-free home, at this time. Prior to coming into care, Olaf tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis. Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis are tick-borne diseases that stay in the bloodstream for many years. A CBC is performed to assess for an active infection. Olaf's CBC came back indicating no active infection. Ehrlichia/Anaplasmosis positive dogs may develop chronic kidney disease at some point in their life. It is recommended that any dog that has tested positive for Ehrlichia or Anaplasmosis receive an annual 4DX blood test, as well as a CBC and platelet count, before any major surgery or dental procedures. If clinical signs of Ehrlichia or Anaplasmosis arise, bloodwork should be done sooner. Olaf would do well in a variety of home environments with adopters who will continue to provide consistency and affection. He can be vocal, so a condo setting may not be ideal. He is ready to find a home where his joyful personality is welcomed and where he can continue to thrive. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Olaf’s adoption fee is $850. To learn more about our adoption fees and the foster-to-adopt process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Olaf (Foster-to-Adopt), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
