Andie is a 3-year-old miniature poodle who is just beginning her new life after coming from a puppy mill. She is a gentle, sensitive girl who is learning to feel safe and secure in a home for the very first time. While the world can still feel a bit overwhelming, Andie is growing braver each day and starting to show her sweet, devoted nature. Andie forms a strong bond with her person and loves to stay close, often following them from room to room and seeking quiet attention. She sleeps well in her crate overnight and can also relax loose in the home, usually choosing a cozy spot on the couch. She is doing well with her routine, goes to the bathroom outside when taken, and is learning new skills like stairs and exploring her surroundings. She travels well in the car and has done nicely at the vet. Andie is still building confidence and will need patience as she continues to adjust. She can be nervous with new people and prefers a calm, predictable environment. Loud household noises can startle her, and she is still learning about walking on leash and venturing beyond the home. She may do best as an only dog, or with a calm, older dog who will give her space. She would be best suited to an adult home or one with older, respectful children who can understand her need for space and quietness. Andie requires patience and calmness to warm up, therefor young children would not be the right fit for Andie. Andie has met teenagers but has not been tested with other children. Andie has had an ear infection that has been treated but the adopter should be aware she may be susceptible to future infections. While in our care, Andie had a sensitivity to gaseous anesthesia, which is important for an adopter to know regarding her veterinary care should she require an anesthetic in the future. Andie has bilateral grade 2 medial patellar laxity and a mild external rotation of the femurs giving her a somewhat bowlegged stance, but the vet found it does not seem painful anywhere. Andie would do best in a quiet home with patient adopters who will give her the time and space she needs to build trust. A house with a secure yard would help her feel safe as she continues to explore. For someone willing to go at her pace, Andie will become a deeply loyal and loving companion, and watching her confidence grow will be incredibly rewarding.
