Eda is an incredibly sweet, affectionate cat who loves to join her humans in bed or on the couch for cuddles. When she first came to us, she was emaciated and nursing 6 kittens. Her only previous human interactions were with her feeder, so she mostly hid for the first weeks. Slowly, she started to trust, coming to enjoy pats and learning to play. It took her a few months to feel safe enough to venture out of the basement, which was her sanctuary space, lured by treats and encouragement. Within a few weeks of that, she made it to the second floor. There, she discovered that she loved to lie on the bed with her humans, watching TV, enjoying quiet pats with resting humans. Now, she is one of the most affectionate cats in the house. Eda has brilliant cat social skills - the most negative response she’s ever elicited from another cat is indifference and most cats seem fond of her. She’s very attuned to her foster siblings’ social cues and follows their lead. She can even kindly, gently groom the alpha cats without being rebuked, suggesting they respect her and welcome her affection.Eda loves to play, and playtime is the closest she gets to being assertive - she will join in to chase a wand toy rather than always hanging back until everyone else is done. She will make an excellent human companion and feline friend for almost any cat who could use one. She will also tolerate dogs who know their place in the dog-cat hierarchy and allow her to approach them if/when she chooses. Eda is still shy around new people, but she has started to come into rooms and even venture up to new people when her teenagers have friends over. She still prefers people to be sitting vs walking towards her but she now allows her foster family to approach her and pat her on her cat tree. If she’s walking at the same time, she eagerly walks ahead of her humans, occasionally looking back to make sure they’re coming, excited that they may be going to get her food or sit down for cuddle time. She loves to lead her humans to bed and will jump up ahead of them, ready for affection. Eda would probably not like the unpredictability of younger children, but if she has a place up high to watch from she would probably be okay with calm, respectful elementary school-aged kids or older.Eda’s only quirk is that she will give a firm love bite (it sometimes hurts a bit, but has never injured) if her humans get too distracted during patting or if she’s had to
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Eda, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
