My story

Loki is a neutered male Terrier mix approximately 3 years old being fostered in Waterloo.  He was transferred to our care from a shelter where he was extremely frightened and shut down. He has a soft grey coat that will require occasional grooming.  He weighs approximately 10 lbs. Loki is vaccinated and microchipped. His overall health is good, and he eats well.  It took weeks for Loki to be comfortable and at first, he would startle and run from any strange noise or movement. He gradually became comfortable with human touch and now enjoys sitting on his foster’s lap.     He is very aware of his surroundings and will sometimes bark at noises he hears outside. When visitors come to the home he will bark and watch from afar for a few minutes. After a period of observation, he will approach to sniff them and perhaps get a pet. Until a few weeks ago, Loki was afraid to go outside but has now conquered that fear and goes to the door to go out regularly. His housetraining is a work in process but improving. He will wear a belly band to avoid accidents in the house. He can be left for several hours on his own in the house and is not destructive. He is eating a meal of kibble twice a day and enjoys treats occasionally. At first Loki chose to sleep in the living room of his foster home but now sleeps peacefully on the foot of his fosters bed through the night.  He does jump onto furniture and uses stairs. He walks well on a leash and is fine travelling in the car. He would be open to sharing a home with another dog of similar size who likes to play or have some play sessions with his humans. He likes toys, playing fetch and gets the occasional zoomies.  At his foster home, Loki has been allowed to take things at his own pace. We have very gradually exposed him to new activities like going for walks, car rides and going into different environments like other homes and the pet store. His new owner will need to be very patient as he becomes accustomed to his new surroundings. His preferred home would have a fenced yard and someone who is home part of the day. We will need a slow introduction between Loki and his new family and will request a couple of in person meetings before his move. Loki is a great little guy and with time and love he will be a wonderful companion.April 19, 2026, 8:45 am
