My story

Harvey is a 16lb poodle mix, estimated to be about 2 years old, who came in as a stray.  From the moment he arrived in foster care, his loving personality shone bright. Harvey experiences the world a little differently - he is completely deaf. This doesn’t slow him down one bit and he greets the world with curiosity and joy.  He is a smart little guy who has picked up hand signals quickly.  He has figured out that sitting politely is the key to getting all the good things in life (like meals, toys, and walks!). Harvey’s days are filled with simple pleasures. He loves to be sent on “sniffaris,” and his nose leads the way when out on his walks. He loves meeting other dogs and will pull and bark to get to them, so continued leash training is a must.  Afterward, he’s more than happy to curl up for a well-earned nap in the presence of the people he loves. He enjoys car rides, chewing on his favorite bones, and amusing himself with toys.  Especially toys that can be de-stuffed which he finds a great source of enrichment! This young man is a friendly, easygoing pup, who gets along well with other dogs and has been said to love cats too. He shows no signs of aggression and happily welcomes attention from the people he meets. While his experience with kids is unknown, his gentle nature suggests he would do just fine with them.  Over the past several weeks, Harvey has been learning what it means to live in a house. He’s almost fully housetrained, has great manners around food, and with exercise beforehand, settles nicely when left alone. He’s still learning, but he’s eager and very trainable. Because Harvey is deaf, he’ll need a home that can continue guiding him with hand signals and patience. For his safety, his guardians must be diligent about keeping escape routes (aka doors and gates) closed at all times as he won’t hear you for recall if his nose decides to lead him on an adventure. A secure fenced yard would be ideal. He would love to find that special someone who will appreciate his big heart, while continuing to build his confidence through positive reinforcement. It’s hard not to fall in love with this special boy and once you meet him, you’ll understand why. April 19, 2026, 8:45 am
