My story

Chapita / Female / Approx. 6 Years / 35lbs / Mixed Breed / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Good with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Burlington Follow Chapita's journey on Instagram @jacsfosters Chapita’s story begins on the street, where she was found shut down, sick, and terrified of humans. With time, patience, and gentle care, she’s slowly learned that people can be kind, and now she’s ready for a calm, loving home where she can truly settle in and feel safe. Chapita is a shy, quiet girl who finds comfort in the simple things. She loves cozy corners, soft beds, and peaceful surroundings. She’s not a fan of chaos and prefers a calm, predictable environment. Her energy level is best described as “garden snail,” with short bursts of play followed by expert-level naps. She can be a little nervous at first, especially with new people or loud noises, but once she trusts you, her personality really shines. She becomes incredibly loyal and affectionate, she’ll gently ask for attention and won’t want to leave your side. She’s a serious cuddler and happiest just being close to her person. Chapita walks nicely on leash for short distances and enjoys very low-key activity. She is house trained, settles beautifully in her space and does great when left alone, happily relaxing until you return (and greeting you with excited tail wags). With other dogs, Chapita is still building confidence and would do best with slow, thoughtful introductions. She has shown gentle, curious behaviour and may do well with a calm, respectful dog over time. With cats, she has been around them and is still adjusting, she may bark or get a little unsure, but it appears to be part of her settling-in process and could improve with time and guidance. Chapita has not been formally tested with children, but based on her gentle, sensitive nature, she would likely do best with older, calm, dog-savvy kids who can respect her space and allow her to warm up at her own pace. Chapita’s ideal home is quiet and low-key, think movie nights, cozy evenings, and a slower pace of life. A suburban setting is strongly preferred, as city noise can be overwhelming for her. She has made it very clear she is not interested in hiking, biking, or weightlifting, and honestly seemed a little offended those were even suggested. Chapita is ready for her soft landing. A patient, loving home that understands that the quiet ones often love the deepest once they feel safe.
