She was taken to a city pound, where she was soon placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, Porta was rescued by a local shelter just in time. Soon after rescue she moved into a foster home and has been living in an apartment with a foster mother. She is left alone day time, but has not shown any separation anxiety. She stays quiet without making any troubles. Porta also goes to daycare and she loves it.Personality and SocializationPorta is a gentle and sensitive girl with a soft heart. She has a low to medium energy level and needs time to feel comfortable in new environments and with new people. While she may be shy at first, once she builds trust, her affectionate nature truly comes out. With familiar people, she will approach with a wagging tail and quietly ask for pets. She is especially cautious around strangers and tends to be more fearful of men at first. However, with patience and consistency, she is able to build trust. She attends daycare where most of the staff are men, and she has learned to feel comfortable around them over time.Porta gets along very well with other dogs and gains confidence from their presence. She shows little interest in cats, both indoors and outside. She has not yet been introduced to young children.BehavioursIn calm and quiet areas, Porta enjoys her walks and will happily hop around while exploring and sniffing. Busy and noisy environments can still feel overwhelming for her, but she is gradually improving with ongoing exposure and gentle guidance. She does not have separation anxiety and has never shown any aggression. She is very quiet and has not been heard barking or howling.Porta is not comfortable being suddenly picked up and can be sensitive to unfamiliar sounds. While she does not enjoy bathing or grooming, she tolerates it well and allows her foster or groomer to manage her care without much difficulty. She can handle car rides of about an hour, but longer or bumpier trips may cause motion sickness. She is house trained and prefers to go outside, often holding it when indoors at home. In daycare, she is comfortable using pee pads, especially when following the other dogs.Health and DietPorta is currently healthy and doing well. When she was first rescued, she was treated for heartworm and anaplasmosis, and she has now fully recovered. She eats regular kibble twice a day. Porta especially enjoys meat based treats, pet milk, and nose work activities. She also enjoys spending time at daycare.Ideal HomePorta would do best in a calm and patient home that understands shy dogs and is willing to give her the time she needs to feel safe. A quieter home environment away from heavy city noise would help her continue to grow in confidence. Porta tends to feel more comfortable around women, so a female led household would be ideal. Previous experience with rescue dogs would also be very helpful.Having another friendly and gentle dog in the home is important for Porta, as she clearly feels more secure and confident with a canine companion. She is looking for someone who will move at her pace and give her the time she needs. In return, she will offer a quiet, loyal, and deeply rewarding kind of love.**Note: Porta is currently in Korea and will travel to Toronto once she is adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption applicaiton, please click this link.
