My story

Meet KALI (K-A-L-I) Kali is another beautiful soul from the breeder release group of 11 that recently joined Freedom Frenchie Rescue. She may be new to this big world, but she is already showing everyone just how special she is. The moment you look at her, her hips start swaying. It’s almost like her little defense mechanism — a sweet, nervous wiggle that says, “Hi… I’m trying.” The Hip-Swaying Welcome Kali has the most unique way of greeting people. She slowly creeps over to you in what her foster mom calls an army crawl, swaying those hips the entire way, and then gently curls herself right into your lap. It’s her way of asking for comfort and connection. Kali is incredibly sweet and affectionate, and once she feels safe, she absolutely melts into the people she trusts. When Kali Gets Nervous Because Kali came from a breeder environment, the world is still very new and sometimes overwhelming. When she gets nervous, she will do what her foster calls a panic pant, and she really needs a little quiet time to decompress and settle her emotions. Giving her space when she needs it helps her reset and feel safe again. Learning From Other Dogs Kali is still figuring out how to play with other dogs, but she truly enjoys their company and learns a lot from them. Having other dogs around helps build her confidence. Sometimes when the other dogs are playing and things get a little rowdy, Kali will walk over and stand above them like she thinks a fight might break out. She’s not aggressive — she just seems to go into protect mode, like a mom keeping an eye on things. When redirected, she simply looks at her foster mom, starts swaying those hips again, and makes her way back over. A Natural Mama You can definitely tell Kali was once a mom. She carries herself with a watchful, protective energy, but never in an aggressive way. It’s more like she’s quietly supervising the room. Once she relaxes and lets her shoulders drop, she really begins to enjoy herself and will run around the yard with the other dogs. Queen of the Baby Pool One of Kali’s absolute favorite things is the baby pool. She doesn’t just hop in — she launches herself in and then slowly lowers her body down, cooling off her belly like she’s at a spa day. Afterward she stretches out into the longest little Frenchie yoga stretch, completely relaxed and enjoying the moment. Her Safe Spaces Kali sometimes likes to tuck herself under tables where she feels cozy and secure. She doesn’t mind her crate, although getting her in and out of it can be a little tricky — which is very common for dogs coming from breeder or puppy mill environments. She’s still learning that crates and homes are safe spaces now. The Eating Situation Kali is not a big eater right now. Her foster family has tried many different foods, and what seems to work best is adding ground turkey to her kibble. Even then, she may not eat twice a day consistently for a while. Her appetite will likely improve as she continues gaining confidence and settling into a normal routine. Discovering Cuddles One of Kali’s favorite discoveries in her new life is cuddling. She loves it — probably because she never had it before. Human affection is something she’s learning to enjoy more and more each day. But cuddles alone aren’t enough to build her confidence. Kali does best with structure, consistency, and a predictable routine that helps her understand the world around her. Potty Training Progress Kali has been doing very well with potty training. She hasn’t had any accidents in her crate and goes outside consistently. She hasn’t shown clear signals yet when she needs to go, but since the door is often open for the dogs to go outside, she has been doing great with the routine. The Big World is Still Big Kali does okay on a leash, but the outside world is still a little intimidating. That’s perfectly okay. Confidence comes with time, patience, and gentle exposure. She is a sensitive girl who will blossom with the right guidance and encouragement. Medical Update Kali is spayed and recovered beautifully from her surgery — although she definitely wanted to jump right into the baby pool immediately afterward! (Sorry Kali, the doctor said a few more days.) At her veterinary exam she did very well and does not show any signs of underlying medical issues. Kali’s Ideal Home Kali would do best in a home that understands she is still learning how to be a dog in the real world. A calm environment, a predictable routine, and possibly another confident dog to help guide her would help her continue building confidence. She may be nervous at times, but she is incredibly loving and eager to connect with her people. A Gentle Soul Finding Her Way Kali is one of the many beautiful dogs from this breeder release who is just beginning to discover what life can be like outside of a kennel. She’s sensitive, sweet, a little unsure, and full of potential. With patience and love, Kali will continue growing into the confident, joyful dog she was always meant to be. And if you look closely… you might even catch those hips swaying your way. Kali is vaccinated, spay and microchipped and her adoption donation fee is $1250.00. She is being fostered in Mesa, AZ and you can apply for her at freedomfrenchierescue.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kali, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
