My story

At just 5–6 months old, Pearl is already living up to her name — a precious gem with a little bit of sparkle and a whole lot of personality. This Terrier/Shepherd mix arrived at the shelter as a stray and, heartbreakingly, was never claimed. She came in with an embedded collar that required surgical removal, leaving her with a healing incision across her neck. Through it all, Pearl has remained incredibly sweet, resilient, and ready to take on the world. Because her incision is still healing, Pearl will need to wear a harness instead of a collar for now — but she wears it like a badge of honor as she trots happily by your side. Pearl is a friendly, enthusiastic puppy who greets everyone like they’re her long-lost best friend. She’s affectionate, outgoing, and full of joy. That said — she is very much a puppy. She jumps when excited, pulls on leash, and can be vocal in her greetings. Her enthusiasm sometimes comes on strong, especially with other dogs, and she’s still learning what polite introductions look like. Pearl can be a bit of a firecracker — lovable, lively, and occasionally obnoxious in that classic, unfiltered puppy way. She clearly hasn’t had much early guidance, and it shows in her developing self-control. But underneath the wiggles and noise is a bright, eager girl who truly wants to connect. The good news? Pearl is highly food motivated and already knows “sit”! She’s working on “paw” and shows great potential for learning quickly. Enrolling her in obedience classes is strongly recommended to help her build manners, confidence, and impulse control. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, she’s going to shine. She does some light puppy mouthing and will benefit from continued guidance on appropriate play and boundaries. As a higher-energy Terrier/Shepherd mix, Pearl will need regular daily physical exercise and mental enrichment. Think walks, play sessions, training games, puzzle toys, and maybe even future adventures like hiking or agility. An active home that’s ready to invest time and structure into her development will be rewarded with an incredibly loyal and fun companion. Pearl may be able to live with another dog, provided introductions are slow, structured, and focused on positive interactions. Because she had a very tolerant visiting dog, it’s unknown how she would respond to a more equally bold canine companion. Any resident dog should be patient with typical puppy antics. Her underlying temperament suggests potential for living with dog-savvy teens (15+), especially those willing to participate in consistent training and household structure. Due to her mouthiness and energy, younger children would likely be overwhelmed. Pearl is resilient, affectionate, energetic, and bursting with potential. She’s a sweet girl who just needs guidance, boundaries, and someone willing to invest in her foundation. With time, training, and love, this little spark plug will grow into an incredible, adventurous best friend. If you're ready for a lively companion who will keep you laughing, moving, and proud of her progress — Pearl might just be your perfect match.
