My story

Kane’s story hasn’t been the easiest — but you’d never know it by the way he greets the people he trusts. Over time, Kane has shown us just how resilient he is. Instead of declining in a kennel setting, he’s steadily improved, proving that with patience and structure, he truly shines. And shine he does. Kane is absolutely adored by staff and volunteers. He’s the kind of dog that wins hearts quietly — with soft eyes, a gentle mouth when taking treats, and the sweetest little bum wiggle when meeting new friends. He’s very food motivated (training treats are the way to his heart!) and loves working for his rewards. That motivation, paired with consistency and positive reinforcement, will make him a rockstar in obedience training. He walks beautifully on leash and checks in with his handler, especially when there’s a snack involved. Like many bully mixes, Kane starts outings with a burst of enthusiasm — but don’t worry, he’s not a marathon runner! After about 500 meters, he’s happy to slow down, sniff the world, and lean in for cuddles. His canicross experience brought glowing reviews: “Kane — What a perfect dog. He has nice manners and appeared more relaxed in a new environment. He has a super calm temperament and was uninterested in neighbouring dogs excitedly barking. He greeted new pups with a bum wiggle, stood calmly while his harness was slipped on and off, and after a short run was happy to sniff and cuddle. I feel very lucky to have run with him and hope he isn’t at the shelter long.” He even rode calmly crated in the backseat while another male dog was loose in the vehicle — settling beautifully and showing wonderful composure. Kane seems to thrive with structure and routine. In a home that provides clear expectations, continued training, and plenty of love, he will absolutely blossom. With proper, slow introductions, he may do well with a doggy friend, especially one who appreciates a polite, easygoing companion. At five years old, Kane is past the puppy chaos but still full of life and love to give. He’s ready for a family who will see what we see — a loyal, affectionate, gentle soul who just needed a chance. If you’re looking for a dog who will work for his treats, walk proudly by your side, and melt into you after an adventure… Kane might just be your perfect match.
