**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Dumpling! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. You’re about to meet the most adorable, happy dog who charms everyone she comes in contact with!! She loves all people and thinks everyone should be her best friend. This is Dumpling and she is a gorgeous cream coloured French Bulldog who is 3yrs old. She weighs about 15 lbs and is a compact bundle of love and affection! Dumpling was abandoned and ended up in a shelter as an unclaimed stray. We have no idea why she wasn’t claimed as she is the most fun, sweetest Frenchie. Dumpling is a joyful clown of a dog and everything we all love about Frenchies. She is a big cuddle bug and loves to be on your lap. She enjoys her walks and gets so excited when you put her leash on. She is not a fan of the cold though so walks in the winter are a short jaunt. She is looking forward to spring where she can be out to explore more. She will wear a coat for winter walks but getting it on her can be a bit of a challenge as she is so wiggly and “helpful” that it’s like trying to put a coat on an eel! HA!! But we get the job done and then off we go. We crate her in the car for her safety and she settles in quietly for the ride. She is eternally happy and always has a grin on her face. She is a dog that makes people smile when they see her and she is always happy to meet a new friend. Dumpling is a very social little dog and she thinks everyone should be a buddy of hers. She will be your shadow in the house and follow you everywhere. Dumpling came to us with a few areas of dermatitis that we have had looked at and have a topical cream for. She has no issues with her cream being applied. She also had an ear infection that we had treated. She had a good exam with our vet team and it has been determined that she is spayed. Our vet made comment that Dumpling was an “absolute delight” which just speaks to her great nature. Dumpling loved her vet visit as this was just a time to meet new friends and get some snacks. She loves snacks! Dumpling would be best as the only pet in the home. She gets excited when she sees cats and squirrels when out on walks and would love to chase them. She will ignore calm dogs on walks but if a dog is excitable or barky she will bark back. Dumpling doesn’t want dog friends and would much rather just have more and more people friends. This is 100% a people dog. She wants to be in a home where she is getting all of the attention and love. Dumpling loves chewing on dog toys and playing with stuffies. She enjoys a variety of toys and loves play time. Dumpling would be fine in a home with children old enough to be responsible to always shut doors and gates securely behind them as she will try to take off out a door if left open. A home with kids 8yrs plus would be fine but she would be just as happy in an adult only home. Visiting younger children are fine as long as the adults in the home make sure doors are closed. Dumpling will benefit greatly from the necessary post adoption training and going to class. She is a very good dog but does get over excited easily and sometimes forgets her manners when she is excited. Getting a solid base of obedience skills will be great for her. Dumpling would like a home where she isn’t left for a full work day. She is crated when we leave and does well with this, but she is only left for a few hours at a time. She is quiet in her crate and settles nicely. When out of her crate she needs to get out to pee asap and so having her crate set up close to the door to the yard works well for her. A fenced yard isn’t mandatory for her, but it’s a plus for quick pees. She will do her bathroom duties just fine though on leash out on walks. She is doing well with her house training, she just needs her people to let her out regularly and know that if she goes to wander out of the room, you have to take her out. She doesn’t know how to tell you she needs to go out so her people have to be proactive and just take her out regularly. Dumpling would be suitable for a wide variety of housing situations. She is a quiet dog and not prone to unnecessary barking. She wouldn’t do well in a high rise apartment building where being in an elevator with other dogs coming in would be a possibility, but a low rise building, or an apartment on the main floor would work for her. She doesn’t need a lot of space indoors and is quite content just to lounge in the room her people are in. She is not disturbed by traffic noises and will do well in many neighbourhood types as well. Adopters with previous French Bulldog or other Bulldog experience are preferred, as they are a special breed with specific needs to keep them happy and healthy. She will need to have her wrinkles cleaned on a regular basis as well as special attention to any potential allergies associated with food. She is doing well on the food she is on in our care, which is a top quality diet, and she should be kept on this. Frenchies are prone to environmental allergies and she may need allergy meds throughout her life, although so far she has been ok and showing no signs of having any allergies. Adopters should also regularly maintain her teeth through brushing and/or dental treats. Potential adopters should be aware of possible breed specific health issues and commit to any financial needs she may have in the future to maintain her health. This is a breed that comes with an assortment of potential medical issues and they are known as a high maintenance breed for upkeep and medical care. Her family needs to be fully aware of this and be financially able to care for anything that Dumpling will need in her life. Frenchies are known for back issues so her adopters need to be prepared for this possibility and be fully aware of IVDD. With Frenchie’s that is a risk you take. Should this happen, she would require back surgery immediately to fix it. Her family needs to guard against this by not letting her become overweight, by keeping her lean and muscular, and by not letting her jump up on the couch or jump down from the couch, bed etc. When lifting her, support her entire back…just general things to keep her back safe. What we can tell you is that Dumpling is SO worth the extra care Frenchie’s need. She is a pro cuddler and entertainer who will make you laugh daily. She is low energy in the home and super easy to have around. She likes to have a nice bed to chew her Nylabones in. She likes naps. She loves cuddles. She likes to lounge on the arm of the couch and supervise goings on from her throne. She follows you around the house but settles in whatever room you are in. She is quiet in the home and such an easy dog to live with. She is just so special. We know that there is a Frenchie loving person or family out there that will see what this amazing dog has to offer. If you are interested in Dumpling send us in an application and be sure to tell us in there why you feel that you would be a great fit for Dumpling. The more you can tell us about your home, your knowledge of this breed etc the better. We know that there are her perfect people out there that would just love to have a happy little Frenchie companion and we look forward to meeting them!!
