My story

Do you believe in love at first sight? That’s how it was with sweet 1 year old Dolly and her foster mom. In November 2025, Dolly’s foster mom saw Dolly in the streets of a commercial area lingering near dumpsters, clearly searching for food. When the foster stepped into a café to ask if anyone recognized Dolly, Dolly walked right up to the glass door and looked inside, as if she knew this was her chance to be seen. Not long after, she was spotted inside a dumpster—an unmistakable sign of hunger. A cook at a nearby restaurant shared that he had been feeding Dolly for several weeks. With a good meal offered, Dolly was easy to catch. Dolly’s foster mom was fostering other kitties at the time so she took Dolly to a shelter where Dolly would be warm and not have to search for food. Her foster mom couldn’t stop thinking about Dolly though so when her fabulous foster kitties got adopted, she immediately arranged to take in Dolly. Dolly is a quiet, gentle soul who enjoys the simple comforts in life. Her favorite pastime is napping cozily in her bed under the heater. She likes to sit and watch the world from the safety of the indoors, curious but content to enjoy soft, gentle pets. This sweet girl would do best in a peaceful home with someone who appreciates a more reserved, independent cat and is happy to let trust grow naturally. Dolly is FIV positive, but that doesn’t define her—cats with FIV can live long, happy lives and often make wonderful, low-maintenance companions in the right home. FIV cats can live with other cats, as long as they're not fighting. Dolly is not a fighter. She also has a slightly raised lip on one side due to missing a few teeth, which doesn’t affect her at all. Dolly happily enjoys both canned and dry food and, despite her time as a stray when meals were never guaranteed, she now eats calmly and in moderation. When she’s hungry, she lets her foster mom know by appearing in the doorway, then trotting over to where her food bowl will be placed, ready and waiting. If you’re looking for a mellow companion who will quietly share your space and bring a sense of calm with her, come meet Dolly and prepare to fall in love. She is being fostered in Catonsville, MD. To  adopt you must first complete an adoption application and meet the cat in its foster home. We do not do same day adoptions so, generally, we can only adopt within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dolly, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
