My story

Meet Aloysius ??Hello! My name is Aloysius — yes, like Mr. Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street! I may not have a long fuzzy trunk, but I do have a big personality and an even bigger heart.I’m a Shepherd mix who arrived at the shelter on January 30, 2026, with a rare skin condition called puppy strangles (also known as juvenile cellulitis). It sounds scary, but let me tell you what it means.Puppy strangles is a rare immune-related condition that affects young puppies. When I first came in, it caused swelling around my face — especially near my eyes, muzzle, and ears — along with some sores and swollen lymph nodes. It can also make puppies feel tired and run a fever. The good news? With early and aggressive treatment, the prognosis is very good — and that’s exactly what I received. Treatment includes corticosteroids (like prednisone) to calm the immune system, and sometimes antibiotics to prevent secondary infections.Because I was treated promptly, I’m expected to make a full recovery, and this condition typically does not come back once resolved.I’ve been a brave boy through it all, and now I’m ready to focus on what really matters — finding a loving forever home. I’m looking for a family who will see past my rough start and recognize the sweet, resilient pup I truly am.If you’re searching for a loyal Shepherd mix with a unique name and an even more unique story, I might just be your guy. Will you be the one to give me my happily-ever-after? ????

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Aloysius, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
