Nami is a 3-year-old girl who spent two long months in the shelter, and the stress truly took a toll on her—she lost over five pounds during her stay. When you’re only about 45 pounds to begin with, that’s a lot for a dog to lose. Nami spent her whole life in a home with people and isn’t used to being on her own which made shelter life pretty scary for her. When our volunteer met her, Nami was easy to leash and walk and she showed no reactivity toward other dogs that were around the shelter. In the play yard she was clearly nervous, but she climbed right into our volunteer’s lap, offered kisses, and soaked up every bit of affection. We’re so relieved she’s now safe and decompressing with one of our fosters! Nami has settled in to her foster home beautifully. She’s already showing off her excellent manners—she’s potty trained and knows sit, down, shake, roll over, and stay! She walks well on leash with minimal pulling and has a medium energy level. She hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors, though she’s been known to counter surf if given the opportunity. Nami responds well to verbal correction and food redirection, and while she has experienced slight separation anxiety and doesn’t do well in a crate, she’s otherwise a very easy companion. Nami is a very affectionate girl and loves belly rubs, walks, and cuddling with her people. She’s mostly indifferent to other dogs she has encountered outside the home and truly thrives on human connection. She could do well with a young or active adult, a retired couple, or a family with children. Because of her history surrounding food guarding, we would recommend children ages 7+. A busy household is just fine for her, as long as she has people around to reassure her. She would be happy as an only dog, but could live with another dog after a proper meet-and-greet to ensure compatibility. Cats are unknown. Nami is a gentle, loving soul who just wants to feel safe again—and once she does, she’ll repay that kindness with endless affection.
