My story

Waffles landed at Arizona Humane Society after being found as a stray. It was very clear that she had mobility issues with her hind limbs, and needed medical attention. AHS learned that Waffles had severe patellar luxations that caused a painful, hunched walk and visible difficulty getting around. After deciding that Waffles’ condition was too severe for them to perform surgery, she was placed on the E-list. Waffles urgently needed rescue and medical care, and we are so grateful to have found a foster who stepped up for this petite 3 year old girl, giving her the chance she deserved. After looking closer at her medical records, we also learned that she had 2 BB pellets near her spine adding to concerns about her overall condition. Despite everything she had been through, Waffles remained incredibly sweet and friendly, just needing a little time to warm up to new people. Waffles entered foster care in August and had corrective surgery on both knees in September. Recovery has not been her favorite thing, but she has had an incredibly patient foster (and a lot of treats!) to get her through. After just three months of recovery, she is now walking so much better and enjoying life in her foster home! Waffles adjusted well to her foster home, even with surgery and recovery happening shortly after arrival. Now that she’s healed, her personality is really shining — she’s a happy, playful, high-energy girl who loves being part of the action. She enjoys playing with other large dogs, is very affectionate once she knows you, and responds well to verbal correction and redirection. Like many young, energetic pups, she can get into mischief if bored (counter surfing is her fave), and she does have some separation anxiety, so continued structure and enrichment will be important. She hasn’t had a ton of walking experience yet due to recovery, but now that she’s past that phase, she’s ready to start exploring the world one paw at a time! Waffles would do well in a wide variety of homes and is a pretty adaptable girl overall. She could thrive with both a young or older household, or even a family with children ages 3 and up. She also enjoys the company of other young or playful dogs and would love a canine buddy to romp around with. Whether her future home is quiet or busy, she is ready to enjoy her fully healed, happy life. Waffles is ready to serve up some unconditional love in her forever home — no syrup required! https://azhuskyrescue.com/adoption-application/
