Carlos is a shy guy who takes a little time to feel safe, but once he does, he bonds deeply and loves fiercely. He’s looking for a patient home where he can be guided at his own pace, learning that the world isn’t as scary as it sometimes feels. This thoughtful little guy thrives with routine and gentle encouragement. He’s happiest on walks where he can explore at his own speed, loves curling up in his crate to relax, and enjoys quiet play with toys (small tennis balls are a big favorite!). Food is serious business for Carlos, he really enjoys his treats and meals!Carlos is best suited for home where patience, understanding, and calm consistency are part of everyday life. HOME TYPE:Any. CHILDREN:No- Carlos has been uncomfortable/nervous of children in the past, so would do best in a calm and patient adult-only home. CATS & SMALL ANIMALS:Yes- Cats potentially compatible with slow proper introduction.OTHER DOGS:No- Carlos would do best as the one and only dog in the household, enjoying all the attention and love from his humans!ACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL:Moderate to High; will need daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation but enjoys some daily down time as well. Carlos is looking to get to a healthy weight so would need an active family ready to take on that challenge with him! HUMAN COMPATIBILTY:First time dog owner possible, as long as prepared to work on difficult behaviours such as nervousness, fearfulness, anxiety and possible resource guarding. Carlos may also require more than one meet-and-greet in the shelter to allow him time to feel comfortable with his new family prior to adoption.TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS:At least one in-person training session to work on socialization, basic training, manners, sound/touch sensitivities, general anxiety and possible resource guarding.
