My story

QUICK FACTS Name: Avan Age: 1 Year Gender: Male (Neutered) Breed: Malinois–Jindo Mix Color: Tan with black muzzle Weight: 12kg / 26.4lbs Microchipped, Fully Vaccinated Up to Date, Dewormed   MY RESCUE STORY I was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Miryang City Shelter in Korea. Although the shelter environment was unfamiliar and overwhelming at first, I showed gentle curiosity toward people even on my first day after rescue. With time, stability, and kindness, I’m continuing to adjust and learn what it means to feel safe.   MY PERSONALITY My name is Avan. I’m a quiet, thoughtful boy with a calm presence. I may seem a little shy at first, and while I’ll accept treats right away, I prefer to be touched once I’ve had time to feel comfortable. I’m not overly clingy or expressive, but I enjoy being around people in a steady, reassuring way. You could describe me as an “aloof but kind son” — I may not constantly ask for attention, but I like knowing my people are nearby and I form gentle, trusting bonds over time.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS • With People: I can be cautious around unfamiliar people and may bark when meeting someone new. With time and treats, I warm up and allow handling. I can be picked up comfortably. I have not yet met children under 13. • With Dogs: I’m friendly and social with other dogs and will approach both familiar and unfamiliar dogs to say hello. I tend to feel comfortable around dogs similar to or larger than my size. If another dog provokes me, I may respond, so slow and supervised introductions with new dogs are important. • With Cats: I have not yet been tested with cats. (A cat test can be conducted upon request to ensure the best fit.)   ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level. I enjoy outdoor activities and walks, and once I’ve had enough exercise, I settle down calmly indoors. I generally follow my handler well on leash, though I may pull at times. Since my walking experience is still limited, I may freeze or lie down when I encounter something unfamiliar or scary. With patient guidance, my confidence continues to grow.   TRAINING & HABITS I do not guard food from people or other dogs. I may bark when I want something or when meeting unfamiliar people. I’m calm and well-behaved in a kennel and adapt well to routines. With consistency and positive reinforcement, I continue to make steady progress in a home environment.   MY IDEAL HOME I would do best in a calm, understanding home that allows me to settle in at my own pace. I would thrive with: • A patient family who respects my quieter personality • Gentle guidance and consistent routines • Supervised introductions with new dogs • A stable environment where trust can build naturally   SPECIAL NOTES Avan is not a dog who demands attention, but he quietly enjoys companionship and forms meaningful bonds over time. He has a reserved, “quiet son” kind of charm — steady, observant, and gentle with his people. For a family who appreciates a calm, thoughtful companion rather than an overly expressive one, Avan will be a deeply rewarding presence and a loyal part of the household.   Avan's Youtube Playlist Apply to foster or adopt: https://www.welcomedogkorea.org For Inquiries: info@welcomedogkorea.com ##2633200##
