My story

Sweet Wesson came to us from the county shelter, where he had been medically e-listed for being blind in one eye with a lens luxation and possible glaucoma. He was evaluated by an eye specialist who told us that he needs to get eye drops daily to reduce the pressure in his bad eye, which was confirmed to have glaucoma. Without these drops, we would need to have his eye removed since it will only get worse and cause him pain. After several weeks in boarding, we were able to get him into a foster home to decompress and build trust so he could receive his eyedrops and we could finally get to know him better! Wesson’s fosters describe him as highly energetic and playful with other animals (both small and large dogs). He loves to run around outside, which is a great way for him to burn that energy! Wesson can be a bit more on the alpha side, but he does well with verbal correction and responds to treat/food redirection. He loves mealtime! He is also crate-trained, though he can tend to guard that space from dogs and people, so he will need a more experience owner who understands resource guarding behavior and knows how to manage it. His current fosters have been working with him and hopefully his forever home will too! Wesson is a cuddly and affectionate guy, but he also has a limit and will let you know when he’s had enough interaction by getting a little mouthy. Because of these behaviors, we recommend he be placed in an adult-only home. He would do well as an only dog or with other playful dogs. His adopter will need to be patient and willing to work on building that bond of trust. With just a little perseverance, Wesson will make a great best friend!
