My story

Meet Duke – Our Sock-Stealing Rockstar Duke is a 3-year-old 27lb Frenchie who came to us from our Hesperia Shelter with major ear masses. Personality Quirks: And let’s be real—this boy is a total sock monster. Duke LOVES sneaking into the laundry, grabbing any sock he can find, and proudly prancing in circles to show it off. He’ll even check back in with you mid-strut, just to make sure you see how clever he is. We bought him toys (even took him shopping at HomeGoods!), but nothing compares to a good sock. Beyond his goofy side, Duke is a humble, sweet, gentle soul. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and obedient. Open the crate door and he’ll go right in—sometimes he even chooses to nap there on his own. Medical: Dukes ear masses were so bad they were constantly bleeding from scratching so much and puss was always coming from them leaving a foul smell. He bravely underwent TECA surgery (a bill we’re still paying off!), and thanks to that, he’s living pain-free and ready to start his next adventure. His canals are sewn shut but it is still really important to keep his ears clean. His hearing is limited after surgery, but if you talk loud, he listens. He’s healed wonderfully, with fur already growing back on his big, round “moo moo scrunchy face” head. Meal/training: Duke eats twice a day and LOVES mealtimes. He does need to be fed in his crate, as he will resource guard around other dogs while in crate. Duke does ok eating with others outside of it but there have been 2 incidents. His new family should continue feeding him separately until he feels safe and settled. He does well with other dogs—he doesn’t fight and actually enjoys their company—but he’s more of a laid-back loner. With fewer dogs in the home, we believe he’ll blossom into a loyal friend who might just rope his new dog buddy into planning sock heists. Beyond his goofy side, Duke is a humble, sweet, gentle soul. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and obedient. Open the crate door and he’ll go right in—sometimes he even chooses to nap there on his own. He does have his stubborn side when he knows you are leaving and does not want to go in, so we lift up his butt and he goes. Foster Pupdate: Duke enjoys walks, tug-of-war with his foster sister, following foster mom around the yard while cleaning up poop, and being the center of attention when it comes to people. For everything this boy has been through, Duke remains happy, gentle, and ready to love big. He waits his turn for love and will not fight anyone if they want to go first. Duke aims to please and his demeanor has definitely changed in the best way since his ear surgery. I have nothing bad to say about this guy he is just all around amazing in every way and is grateful for a fresh start! Duke is the full pied package: resilient, silly, affectionate, and absolutely unforgettable. He’s healed, thriving, and SO ready for his forever home. Will you be the one to give him the love (and socks) he deserves? His hair is still growing back on his head from surgery but he is just the sweetest gentle lover ever. His adoption donation fee is $1050.00 and he is located in Mesa, AZ. You can apply for Duke at freedomfrenchierescue.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Duke, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
