** DEXTER'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED ** Dexter / Male / Approx 3 years / 50 lbs / Australian Cattle Dog Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / Good with Cats / Medium-Low Energy / From Tennessee / Fostered in Brampton ** Follow Dexter's journey on Instagram: @lilcuddlebugfosters** Meet Dexter! This handsome boy is full of joy and never-ending affection. He is sweet, calm, friendly, sometimes goofy and very loving to his people. Giving people hugs and kisses is one of his favourite things and he'll happily greet you when you get home. He's excited to do whatever you feel like - from going for a walk to lounging on the couch. Dexter is very affectionate, he likes to stick close to his trusted humans. When meeting new people, he may take time to warm up, and appreciates slow introductions and time to observe and sniff. Dexter has lived with children ages 7 -17 and treated them the same as the adults. To Dexter, his humans are the best and he loves to play and cuddle with them all. Dexter walks well on leash and does not pull. He currently gets two walks a day of 30-45 minutes. He also loves play time in the backyard with his canine foster sister. He gets along well with other dogs who match his laid back energy and is good at reading cues. Dexter would be a great second dog in a home, but could also do well as the only dog. Dexter has not been tested with cats. On rare occasions, he can be a little uneasy and may bark or react when passing strange men or fast moving people running or on bikes. Dexter is great when left home alone and settles immediately. He is not crated and usually just curls up on a dog bed or the couch and chills out until his people come home. He may counter surf so it’s important to make sure all food is put away when leaving him. Dexter has been left for up to six hours without issue and is fully potty trained. While in foster care, Dexter received a diagnosis of megaesophagus which comes with some long-term care. Megaesophagus means that Dexter’s body doesn’t push food into his stomach the way it should. He is stable on medication and a regime of 3 meals per day fed while he is in an elevated position in a Bailey Chair. Dexter has become fairly accustomed to using his chair and will sit in it for up to 30 minutes after he eats. Small amounts of regurgitation is common for dogs with this condition and their health should be monitored. He also uses a travel pillow when lying down which minimizes the regurgitation. If you are interested in Dexter but have questions about his condition, please reach out and we would be happy to connect you with his vetting team to discuss further. Dexter’s ideal home would be with a loving family who is ready for endless kisses and has a willingness to commit to his healthcare. He is young and enjoys a daily walk with a few chances for potty breaks throughout the day. Dexter would do best in a home with a yard in a quiet area. Dexter is a real gem and wants nothing more than a committed family with whom he can enjoy his life. If you are looking for a fun-loving companion, Dexter is your guy. He has so much love to give and will brighten up your home.
