My story

Firefly / Female / Approx. 12 weeks / 4.6 lbs / Mixed Breed / Untested with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Untested with Cats / From Manitoba / Fostered in Mississauga Follow Firefly's journey on Instagram @fosterdogmumlife This floppy-eared fluffball is Firefly. A survivor of the Northern Manitoba fires, Firefly was whisked away to safety, where she's living her best puppy life in foster care. Sweet, playful, and just full of life, Firefly is learning how to dog right and preparing for the next stage in her journey. You can't really blame Firefly for being fearful of loud noises—that instinct probably kept her alive while the world was burning around her. Thankfully, this pup was rescued from wildfires and is quickly learning what it feels like to live in a loving and safe environment. She's still cautious around strangers and definitely spooked by loud noises, but she's blossoming into a real sweetheart in foster care. Firefly's energy levels are pretty standard for a puppy. She's a little young for regular walks, but playtime can be an extended affair. She loves to play with stuffies, chew toys, and engage in tug-of-war, and will cuddle up for a nap once she's thoroughly tired. Every day, Firefly overcomes her fears of the unknown and has gained a healthy curiosity about the outdoors. She's not one to bound toward new people, but will definitely warm up to strangers once she's familiar with them. She hasn't been tested around children, but her gentle nature and timid approach will likely make her perfect for youngsters or other pets. It's difficult to assess how big Firefly will get once fully grown as a mixed breed of unknown origins, but given her energy levels, she'd likely do best in suburban or rural households with plenty of space to move around. Good, walkable areas will also be necessary to ensure a healthy lifestyle once she's an adult on a leash. She's a little bit behind in her studies because of her daring escape from Manitoba, but she's a fast learner. She already knows sit and is being taught the "turn around" trick. Potty and crate training are ongoing, and she's making good progress. She can already go most of the night without needing to be let out and has learned to settle down in her crate for bed, but it's a lot easier when she's good and tuckered out from a play-filled day. Right now, Firefly has a bit of separation anxiety when she's away from her foster for more than a few hours, but that is also improving as she acclimates to her new, much safer lifestyle. Firefly would be a joyful addition to any home. As a condition of the adoption contract, Firefly's new family will be required to: -Ensure she has an opportunity to go outside every 2-3 hours. If you work full-time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 2x per day for a puppy visit. -Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required). -Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's important at this stage. -Spay within 6 months of adoption. If done at our partner vet in Mississauga, the spay/neuter will be included in the adoption fee. If you choose to do it elsewhere, it will be done at your own cost. Proof of spay is required to finalize the adoption. If you’re interested in adopting Firefly, please apply at: https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Firefly’s adoption fee is $1000.
