My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $800 Meet Waffle Cone! This pint-sized sweetheart is a 1 year old Yorkie weighing just 6 lbs, with a soft, non-shedding coat and a heart full of love. Waffle Cone was scooped up by a volunteer the very moment his former owner brought him to the shelter to surrender him— thankfully, because he’s practically perfect!   Waffle Cone’s day starts with kisses, a quick potty break, and breakfast (he prefers his kibble softened with warm water). Then it’s time to play! He loves a game of fetch in the living room or kitchen, or a romp with his foster dog sister. After playtime, he’s equally happy to lounge and nap until his humans are up and ready for more fun. In the evenings, he enjoys his walk around the neighborhood, sniffing and exploring without pulling on leash, and then it’s dinnertime before settling in for cuddles. At night, he sleeps in his crate in his foster’s bedroom, though he’d prefer to curl up in bed with you— ideally burrowed under the blankets with one paw resting gently on you.   From the moment he arrived, Waffle Cone was friendly and affectionate, but as he’s gotten more comfortable, he’s turned into a total Velcro dog. He follows his people everywhere, climbs into laps, falls asleep on chests, and gazes up with eyes that make you feel like the most important person in the world. He’s playful and spirited but also incredibly cuddly— if given the choice between toys and snuggles, he’ll happily choose both!   Waffle Cone is wonderful with people and dogs. His foster’s 11 lb maltipoo doesn’t usually play with other dogs, but Waffle Cone somehow coaxed her into having fun. He’d do well as an only dog or with a friendly sibling who enjoys play. On walks, he ignores most dogs, barks only if a big, scary one approaches, and behaves beautifully in outdoor dining situations. He’s still working on house training but holds it overnight and reliably poops outside or on potty pads. It's likely that now that he is neutered, he'll master it in no time. He’s crate-trained enough to settle after a few minutes, though he definitely prefers to be with his humans.   What makes Waffle Cone truly special is how deeply he loves. He wants nothing more than to be with his people—cuddling, playing, adventuring, or simply keeping them company. He’ll even leap into your arms without warning, trusting you completely to catch him. His playful antics (like nearly hopping high enough to reach the counter at mealtime or his obsession with squeaky toys) keep his foster family laughing every day.   The ideal home for Waffle Cone would be one where he gets plenty of attention, snuggles, and playtime. He’d thrive with someone who’s around often, who enjoys including him in daily activities, and who doesn’t mind being shadowed by a little dog who thinks you hung the moon.   If you’re looking for the sweetest, cuddliest little pup with a big personality and even bigger heart, Waffle Cone will melt your heart just like his name suggests.September 21, 2025, 5:06 pm
