Curious George is a 3 year old, 7 lb Mal-Shih who came to DPS as part of a group of ten dogs who had been living together in a vehicle. When they arrived, it was clear they had been neglected— they were underweight, dirty, and badly in need of grooming. But despite their tough start, these little dogs amazed us with their resilience and sweetness. Curious George, in particular, has blossomed into the most loyal, loving little shadow. Daily Routine: George has a predictable and easy schedule. He wakes up around 7am for breakfast, then enjoys some playtime before settling in for his morning nap around 10am. By noon he’s back up, ready for some food and more play before another long, cozy nap until the evening. Dinner is at 6pm, followed by more play and cuddles until bedtime around 9pm. He’ll often wake up for a quick midnight play session around 11pm before snuggling back in for the night. Personality: When George first arrived in his foster home, he was unsure and a little reserved. With love, patience, and consistency, he has completely opened up. Today, he is very friendly, affectionate, and a total cuddler. He loves to be held, gives kisses freely, and follows his foster everywhere— his eyes are always on his person. He’s a bit of a velcro dog, happiest when he’s by your side. He can be easily startled, so he appreciates gentle handling and reassurance, but his need for closeness and affection makes him an incredibly sweet and loyal companion. He is super content to sit on your lap while you work, curled into the cutest tiny little ball. Other Pets & People: George currently lives with a small dog and gets along well with him, though he’d prefer not to share his favorite human’s lap. He’ll sometimes growl if his foster pup tries to get too close when he’s getting attention. He has played with other small dogs, but he is definitely more of a couch potato than a rough-and-tumble pup. He hasn’t been tested with cats but we cannot imagine him having an issue with them, as he is quite gentle, and he has been around kids and done well with them. He met a 55 lb dog in the rescue the other day and wasn't even afraid of her! Training & Habits: George is housetrained and knows how to use potty pads. He’s not crate-trained and hasn’t needed to be— he does well in the home. He isn’t destructive but will chew when bored, and he’ll bark if he hears noises, which makes him a good little watchdog. Why You’ll Love Him: Curious George’s foster says their favorite thing about him is how he’ll immediately flop down and lay on his side the moment you look at him— as if he’s inviting belly rubs and snuggles. His combination of sweetness, loyalty, and eagerness to be close to his person makes him incredibly endearing. Ideal Home: George would thrive in almost any loving home. He does well with other small dogs but would also be perfectly happy as an only dog where he can soak up all the attention. He’d be a wonderful match for someone looking for a gentle, affectionate lap dog who wants to be included in daily life. If you’ve been wishing for a sweet little companion who will adore you endlessly, Curious George might just be the one.September 11, 2025, 11:28 am
