My story

Meet Domingo – A Gentle Soul Domingo came to us as a stray, so we don’t know much about his past—but what we do know is that he’s a sweet, friendly pup with a heart full of love to give. Life on the streets may have left him a little cautious at first, but Domingo has been making steady progress every day with the help of our patient staff and volunteers. When he first arrived, Domingo was very fearful of walking through hallways and doorways, often freezing in place. While he’s still a little hesitant at times, he’s come a long way and continues to gain confidence on his daily walks. He’s easy to leash up and handle, and once he feels comfortable, he’ll even nudge in for some affection. During his evaluation, Domingo welcomed gentle pets and even solicited a few more from our team—proving just how much he wants to connect. Domingo doesn’t seem too interested in toys at the moment, but he is food-motivated and polite during mealtimes. He showed no issues when staff approached or touched him while he was eating, but as always, we recommend giving dogs their space during meals and treat time. When it comes to other dogs, Domingo is a bit on the reserved side. He met a very energetic pup, and while he gave a quick play bow, he mostly chose to keep his distance. We think Domingo might do best as a solo dog or with a calm canine companion after a proper introduction. Domingo’s ideal home would be one that’s quiet, patient, and full of love—a place where he can finally relax and feel safe. It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff!Be sure to check the `shelter information` box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours!
