My story

There's nothing quite like a puppy's energy and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. These very sweet and loving young puppies are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter with euthanasia pending due to a lack of space. Bree is a beautiful and sweet as can be Bernese Mountain Dog / Labrador Retriever mix (as identified by New Mexico veterinarians. Farfel's can swear to this identification. All we know for certain is that this little girl is as sweet as can be. Bree at just 3 and a half months old and 13 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 50 - 60 lbs when full grown), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's New Mexico rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this very sweet girl with the great temperament. They rescued Bree just in the nick of time to spare her life. Bree is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. This sweet baby is also very beautiful with gorgeous dark eyes that speak of wisdom far beyond her years. From Bree's foster: "Bree is such an amazing puppy!!! So cuddly and so social and LOVES our dog Popeye! They play and snuggle. She is so so so good and even understanding she needs to potty outside!!" Bree has the potential for a stunning and shining coat. Her hair is currently shelter-tired but once on a regular protocol of care, it will be cottony-soft and shining with excellent health. Bree will require a lifelong commitment to periodic sudsy baths, brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a salmon oil supplement are excellent regimens for general longevity and hair care) to keep Bree's coat healthy, shining and soft as cotton. Bree is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly. She would be very excited to be a couch or bed dog and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active day. She's also SO smart and very engaging - very typical of a Bernese / Lab puppy. Some would say dogs of these two breeds are among the sweetest and most engaging in the dog world. Since Bree is just a puppy, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Bree will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement Obedience Classes. This training experience will make a profound difference in a dog's behavior and her relationship with her people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's feels very strongly that every dog and their family deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Bree out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area. We're open to Bree finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. Bree enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important to a dog's development. Bree enjoys her relationships with other dogs as well and would love playing hard and then enjoying the sunshine with a canine friend on a beautiful day. Bree will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to support Farfel's work toward a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. Applications are currently being accepted for this beautiful, very sweet and loving best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Bree please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bree, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
