My story

If you`re the kind of person who finds beauty in quiet moments, who understands that trust is earned slowly, and who has a heart big enough to hold a tender, timid dog—then you just might be the person Velcro has been waiting for. With a gentle, calm approach, Velcro warms up beautifully. On a recent adventure through Midtown and the local farmer’s market, she made friends with several strangers, accepting soft pets and even giving a few sweet licks. She moves slowly but with a quiet curiosity, showing just enough interest to let you know there’s more waiting just beneath the surface. On leash, Velcro is already a lovely walking companion. She stayed close at first-so close she kept bumping legs-but once she relaxed, she walked at a perfect pace, content to explore beside her person. She’s non-reactive to other dogs, watching them pass by without fuss. Her energy is low, and she’d much rather nap in the shade next to you than chase a ball (which she has no idea what to do with). She doesn’t know any commands just yet and doesn’t seem food-motivated, but she’s responsive to affection, especially in calm, quiet moments. Her favorite part of the day? Lying in the grass having her head gently rubbed. Car rides and new situations are still a little scary for Velcro-she had to be lifted into the car—but she handled it with grace and didn’t resist or panic. She just needs time and encouragement as she learns that the world doesn’t have to be so scary. Velcro is looking for a peaceful, patient home. She’ll thrive with someone who is experienced with shy dogs or simply willing to move at her pace. A yard where she can sunbathe and observe the world at a distance would be a bonus. What she needs more than anything is someone who will offer her gentle consistency, soft words, and time to bloom. With the right person, Velcro is going to make the most loyal, loving companion—one who may never be the life of the party, but who will always be quietly by your side.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt VELCRO, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
