My story

Riley is a sweet and smart 9-year-old Papillon with a gentle soul and an irresistible fluffy coat (that, surprisingly, doesn’t shed much!). She weighs around 15 lbs. right now, but her ideal healthy weight is closer to 10–12 lbs. — she’s working on it and would love a walking buddy to help her stay active! This little lady is a great listener and already knows several commands including sit, down, crate, and come — and she’s learning more every day. Riley thrives on companionship and is happiest when she’s close to her person. She gains confidence on walks, especially once her harness is on, and once she trusts you, she’s all in for some quality couch time and belly rubs. Riley gets along well with other dogs, but she does resource guard her food and beds. For this reason, she’d do best as your one and only or in a home with a calm canine sibling where she can be monitored during shared time and crated when left alone with other pets. She'd also be best suited for a family with no children. Her story is one of resilience: Riley was first adopted from a shelter when she was two years old. Sadly, her adopter later developed dementia and could no longer care for her, which brought Riley back into the shelter system. This major life change left her understandably wary of strangers and new environments. She needs a patient and gentle adopter who will give her the time and space to warm up at her own pace. Once she feels safe, she blossoms into a devoted and cuddly companion. Her adoption fee is $400 and Riley is vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and spayed.
