My story

Name: ChanceBreed: Maltese/Terrier MixSex/Age/Weight: Male/ estimated DOB 02/2012 /17 lbsVetting: Neutered. Heartworm negative. Parasite negative. Up to date on rabies and all vaccines. Has had monthly heartworm, flea and tick medications. He is microchipped.House trained: Yes Crate trained: YesDogs/Cats/Children: He is mild mannered and good with other small dogs, cats and children. He will bark at a larger dog who tries to engage him by sniffing him, or at play, or if the larger dog shows signs of aggression. Energy level: Mid to Low: He loves his walks and can easily handle a half mile. He may limp a bit if his arthritis is acting up (rainy days). Before FAR/My history: Chance was well loved by his previous owner who had to be admitted to a nursing home which resulted in his owner surrender.Training Status/Commands I know: I am not able to tell which commands he may know as he is mostly deaf. He does respond to touch. Tap lightly his rump and he will walk. A light tug on leash and he will stop. Front shoulder is go into house. Most of the time in the house he lies down in one of his beds. He will follow me into bathroom and lay on the rug until I am finished. He has a very keen sense of smell and will intermittently make a whining sound to beg for food. He does not get table scraps. He will tap your leg with his nose when he wants attention or to go out. He rarely barks in the house. Working on: Keeping him mobile, he gets a daily probiotic with his breakfast, a daily joint chew, and he gets the dental powder in his evening meal. His face needs to be washed each day to remove tear stains. He gets bathed twice a month, he does well with the hair dryer and he gets brushed every other day to prevent matting. I take him to the groomer for his nail trims, and to have his coat trimmed. Things I like: belly rubs and scratches, lots of walks, laying in the sunshine on the porch, rolling in the grass in the backyard. I like riding in the back seat of the car. Things I don’t like: having my eyes cleaned. Things that make my humans happy: He is such a sweet old soul. He makes me smile. He has a habit of cocking his head to one side like he has a question. He is so easy to take care of and to love.Ideal family/Home: He is a great dog for a senior who likes to walk but wants a dog that does not pull on the leash. He does very well with children as well as other pets. Children need to understand that he is deaf and partially blind, so should be slow in approaching him and let him smell them before petting him.Special Notes: medical history includes a bout of dermatitis which was medically treated. He has benign skin tags over his body. He did have one ulcerative cancer tumor which was surgically removed, it is unclear if the cancer had metasized, but it was determined malignant. To date he is in remission. If you are interested in giving Chance a forever home, please visit the link below to fill out an application! http://fureverafterrescue.org/adoption-application.html It is best to submit an application through a computer.
