My story

Location: Canton, NY Meet Smokey Bear If interested, please contact the foster home. Petfinder Profiles doesn't always work.   https://studio.youtube.com/video/EMnBsYieYhl/edit Hello New Friends! Let me introduce myself! I am Smokey Bear, I know silly name, but mama likes to call me her little Smokey Bear. I like to think of myself as a very distinguished older man and do everything at a distinguished older man pace! As you can see, I like to take my time when going for a walk in the woods. I really do like all of the smells and like to do a little exploring through the trees, but I must confess, my joints really prefer a slow and steady pace. When I went for a vet visit the doc told me I have an old man hip, probably from an injury; which is quite possible as I haven't always had a good life. You see, I ended up in rescue because my owner decided he didn't need any dogs on his property anymore and wasn't getting rid of us in a kind way. Luckily someone reported him and a nice deputy came and removed us from the property. The nice folks at the shelter reached out to ACDRA and asked if they could help. Anyway, the doc took some pictures and said there isn't much help for my hip at my age and they may do more harm than good. It's okay though as he gave me some pills that foster mom hides in a tasty pill pocket that I take every day that is helping a lot with the aches and pains. I take my medicine like such a good boy (cuz I really like the chicken flavored pill pockets). My days consist of short walks, naps and meals. I really like the meal part of the day. I don't mind keeping foster mama company on the patio while she drinks her morning coffee as I do like laying in the warm sunshine. I am quite content to lay on a dog bed on the floor by foster dad's desk too; I just really like being with someone. To brighten their day, I let them scratch behind my ears as much as they want to and give them a tail wag in return. I am currently living with eight other dogs and I honestly don't pay them any mind and they seem to respect I am old and not really up for a lot of play. I let them walk with me and we sniff patches of grass together. So if you are looking for someone to just keep you company and aren't planning on running any marathons or climbing any mountains, I am your boy! Foster mom says she is quite happy to answer any questions you have about me by emailing mrulffes@gmail.com! Old dogs need love too and I am ready to give you plenty of love in return! Hey all, foster mom here. Smokey Bear's story is a tough one. When his owner decided he no longer wanted dogs on his property he decided to dispose of them by shooting them. Fortunately a neighbor reported him and they were able to get a couple of dogs off the property, Smokey Bear being one. He is truly a very gentle old man, fully house trained, will go into a crate with ease although we haven't needed to crate him while he has been with us. He is quite content to just lay on his soft dog bed and take a good nap. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, HW negative, microchipped and has been dewormed. Smokey Bear does have some significant arthritis from what appears to be an old injury that was never treated. We also believe he has lost most of his hearing, but he keeps his eyes on you all the time so he really doesn't miss any cues. He walks amazing on a leash as well. He doesn't appear to have any interest in squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, deer or turkeys while on our walks so I think his prey drive is minimal. We believe he is around 10 years old although the owner reported he was much younger. He is quite content to just keep you company all day long and doesn't expect much in return. If you have any questions about Smokey Bear send them my way mrulffes@gmail.com. Smokey is currently being fostered in Canton, NY. Don't let distance deter you from applying for this sweet old man!
