My story

Name: Penelope Nicknames: Little Piglet. House Cow. Nelly. Breed: Bulldog / Bully mix Sex: Female Age: ~3 years Weight: 39 lbs. of pure meatball magic Before OMD: Penelope and two male dogs were found abandoned in crates outside. She then spent a few weeks in the shelter and when we saw how wiggly she was in her kennel, we knew we needed to make room for her in rescue (and we were able thanks to a foster saying yes!). PS - Both male pups have been adopted. Medical: Penelope had severe cherry eye and has since had surgery to remove the glands. She has healed up wonderfully but may be prone to dry eye later in life. Energy Level: High! She’s got zoomies in her soul and a mission to bulldoze her way through life. Descriptors: Love Muffin. Clumsy. Affectionate. Goofy. Curious. Loud Snorer. Attention Sponge. What we love most: That underbite. The face smooches. Her joyful piggy snorts. The way she runs full throttle like she’s got somewhere important to be (she doesn’t). And that ear! One flopped down, the other straight to the sky; always on alert, like she’s halfway tuned into a secret doggy radio station. What she loves most: Belly rubs for hours. chew toys (Nyla bones especially), playing nonstop. being the center of attention. What makes us laugh: Her dramatic snores. the way she bulldozes everything in her path like a four-legged wrecking ball. her derpy tongue-out gallop. What she doesn’t love: Long walks. She prefers short zooms and then a nap, thank you very much. What she’s working on: Peeing outside consistently (poops are on point though 10/10 outdoor pooper). Not jumping up (she just can’t help her excitement). Walking in a straight line (she’s got the moves, but not the focus). Moonlights as: A clumsy panda. Also: your biggest fan. Basic commands: Not quite, but a firm “No!” gets through just fine. Leash manners: Let’s call them freestyle. She zigzags with enthusiasm. House training: Still a work in progress, but multiple walks a day are helping a lot. Crate trained: Yes! Sleeps in one overnight and during the workday. She’s a crate pro. Dogs: Penelope loves other dogs and is always ready to play, but she doesn’t always read the room. Her play style is full-throttle and body-slammy, so she’ll do best with a tolerant, confident, and more submissive dog who won’t be overwhelmed by her energy but also won’t try to challenge her. A playful buddy close to her size and sturdiness is ideal. Tiny or fragile dogs might not appreciate her bulldozer approach. Cats: Surprisingly gentle and curious; no chasing, just cautious investigating. Kids: She’s super sweet but might accidentally steamroll little ones in her excitement. Older kids who can match her energy and won’t get knocked over? Perfect. Ideal home: A loving, patient family committed to her continued training. A doggie sibling her size and energy level would be ideal. Not a fan of long walks, so a yard or short potty breaks work well. Apartment living could work: she’ll bark at sounds, but she’s not a nonstop noisemaker. life. Favorite hashtags: #MeatballWithLegs #SnortLife #PennyThePiglet #OneEarUpClub Penelope is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. She is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from the website.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Penelope, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
