Name:  Maya         Best Guess for Breed:  Chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of August 2025       SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight: 8 lbs.   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Check out this video of Maya:   https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1v_7QD0siuc and https://youtube.com/shorts/xQPGUbxy2IY   Special adoption considerations:   Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Maya would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.   Maya is Looking For:  Her forever home! This sweet sato did a great job raising her babies Chubaka and Cookies n Cream to be amazing family pets and they both got their forever homes the first day after arriving in the DC area! Now it's Maya's turn to get her happily ever after. The DC area is a huge change from island life on Puerto Rico and she's up for it! Long sniffy walks, romps in parks, all the adventures her humans can dream up - yes, please! Most of all, though, she wants to be safe and loved and under her roof for all her days. What do you say? Are you going to be the one to give her that in exchange for all the adoring gazes she is stockpiling and for the loyal companionship she promises? What My Foster Says About Me: Maya is the sweetest little lady! She just wants to be with you all the time. However, she is adapting well to crate training, enjoys chew toys on occasion, and is learning how to sit on command. Her favorite treat right now is hot dogs, and when she likes you she will give a few little kisses here and there. Seems ok with city noises. Maya loves the sofa too! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
