My story

Cashew/ Female / 10 months / 12lbs / Lhasa Apso Mix / Slow Intros to Dogs / Good with Older Kids / Good with Cats / Local Intake/ Fostered in Mississauga **Follow Cashew’s journey on Instagram: @ cashew.fetch Meet Cashew! Cashew’s foster describes her as a gentle, affectionate, and cuddly pup who loves to stay close to her people. She was found as a stray before coming into our care, and she’s quickly blossomed into a sweet and trusting companion. Cashew’s favorite things are simple: belly rubs, cuddles on the couch, quiet walks, and chewing on sticks. She is still figuring out how to play with toys but is curious and eager to learn. One of her most endearing habits is curling up right beside her foster—she’s a true Velcro pup who loves to be close. With people she knows, Cashew is affectionate, snuggly, and quick to bond. She greets her foster with licks and happily flops over for belly rubs. When meeting new people, she can be shy at first, especially around men or in groups, but she warms up with a little time and gentle reassurance. Once she feels comfortable, she’s very friendly and trusting. Cashew has been calm and gentle around respectful teenagers and would likely do well with older children who understand dog etiquette. Her ideal home would be a quieter environment, such as a house or townhouse, ideally with a fenced yard. She would do best with a family that isn’t away for long hours, as she thrives on companionship and likes having her people nearby. Cashew is cat-friendly and currently lives peacefully with cats in her foster home. She can be cautious with other dogs, sniffing politely but then retreating when she’s had enough. With slow and proper introductions, she may adjust to living with another calm, respectful dog, but she would also be very content as the only pet. She has a medium energy level. Cashew enjoys a daily 30-minute walk plus shorter breaks throughout the day. She loves to sniff and explore, though she may stop or pull if startled by cars, squirrels, or a group of people. Quiet streets and calm environments suit her best. Cashew is still working on training but is making steady progress. She is still working on potty training and will pee and poop on walks now. She knows “sit,” is food-motivated, and is learning recall. She’s not yet fully housetrained, though she is improving quickly. She sleeps soundly in her crate overnight and is comfortable resting there for a few hours during the day. When left alone outside her crate, she may chew, but in her crate she settles well. She can be left alone for short periods and does not show signs of separation anxiety. Cashew rarely barks, has shown no resource guarding, and is gentle with handling. Cashew is a young, affectionate dog who has been through a lot already but is eager to trust and bond with her new family. With patience, structure, and love, she will thrive as a loyal and snuggly companion. If you’re looking for a sweet and gentle pup who loves nothing more than being close to her people, Cashew may be the perfect fit for your family. Cashew will need to be spayed (covered by F+R if done post-adoption). She has a recessed vulva, which just means a little extra care to keep her healthy and comfortable. If her vet recommends a minor fix at the time of her spay, that will also be covered. If you’re interested in adopting Cashew, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Cashew’s adoption fee is $850.
