My story

Meet Kyra (aka "Arwen") – Your Future Adventure Buddy! Kyra, lovingly called Arwen in her foster home, is a resilient and affectionate girl looking for a forever family that can match her big heart and playful spirit. She’s had a tough start in life, but every day she blossoms a little more with love, patience, and understanding. Life With Other Pets & People: Arwen is currently recovering from surgery, so she’s been separated from her foster’s resident dogs by a playpen. That said, they’re peacefully coexisting, and she came to the shelter with two other dogs, so she’s definitely used to canine company. She’s only seen the family cat from a distance through the stairs—no real interaction yet—but so far, no issues. When it comes to humans, she’s a bit timid at first, especially with new people. But once she warms up, she’s all tail wags and sweet kisses. She’s been bonding more quickly with her foster mom and now follows her around like a shadow! She’ll likely need support and training for separation anxiety as she becomes attached to her people. Kids? She hasn’t been around children in her foster home, but her loving, gentle nature suggests she could thrive with respectful kids who understand dog boundaries. House Life & Training Needs: Arwen is fully potty trained—great news for any potential adopter! However, she came in as an outdoor dog, so she’s still adjusting to indoor life. She’s sensitive to loud or unfamiliar sounds like doors closing or objects dropping, but she's learning. Crate training is a work in progress, and she doesn’t yet know any commands, so she’ll need an adopter committed to basic obedience and continued socialization. Energy Level: She’s a high-energy pup who LOVES being outside—it’s where she feels most at peace. She enjoys short walks (and does fairly well on leash, with just a bit of tugging), but what she really needs is a fenced yard to run and play in. She’s also a total goofball who loves toys and giving kisses! Ideal Home: Arwen needs a family with lots of patience, love, and time to help her continue healing emotionally and physically. She’d do best in a home with a yard, possibly with a dog sibling or a human who’s home often. She bonds hard and fast—this girl is a velcro dog who just wants to love and be loved. A DNA test is underway to help better understand her breed mix and support future training needs. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who’s ready to learn and eager to love, Arwen might just be your perfect match. She’s ready for her next chapter—could it be with you?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kyra aka "Arwen", please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
