My story

Jacky is a MALE chihuahua mix. Jacky is approximately six years old and 10 1/2 pounds but he is a little thin and we are giving him some extra snacks so he will gain some weight. Jacky was found as a stray here in Pleasanton then brought to the local shelter. He was really not in good shape, very dirty, covered in fleas, dehydrated, and malnourished. He is looking a lot better and we cannot wait to see his future looking so much brighter . Jacky is a very sweet and gentle boy for the most part, he even is great with kids, is extremely loving to all humans! Good with cats and most female dogs but Jacky does not like male dogs or super dominant not friendly female dogs. He is with 4 other dogs here, all females , and he is very sweet to them and loves them, he is also good with all puppies male or female and appears to do well with senior dogs as well . He is just not a fan of dominant dogs especially male dogs that show any dominance. he would do best in a home with a friendly female dog, or as an only dog. He does not have a pray drive and he is certainly not an aggressive dog. Jackie has lived a very hard life on the streets and you can tell he has some mental scars from this so I do believe he feels like if he is threatened he does not have a choice but to fight . Jacky is also very food aggressive with wet food and high reward treats. He could really care less about the dry food, he is fine, sharing beds, toys, blankets, lap time with other dogs, etc, it’s just the good food and it is only with other dogs. I can take food right out of Jackie’s mouth and he lets me he is extremely submissive to humans. If he was chewing on a bone and a baby took it away, he would just let them. So yes he has some quirks due to the terrible ways he has had to survive through the years, however one hour with Jacky and his goods far outweigh the bads. He wants love so so badly. He looks at you like you hung the moon, follows you everywhere, craves love and human attention so badly. He walks perfect on a leash, he is not barky, he is a gentle loving soul with some baggage is all, I know there is a place, a person, and a soul willing to and wanting to give him that love and reassurance. A safe place. I truly think that once Jacky learns to be part of a family, learns that food is always available and that other dogs are not out trying to kill him, and that life is not always a fight or flight, I think he is going to come around very quickly and be just the best dog you could ever ask for. He has a good heart and a gentle demeanor in all other instances . He just needs a second chance . Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given.
